When hopping, what position should senior exec aim for?
 

Hi I'm new here, hope to have some help.

I'm thinking of changing job within industry or doing related functions in the civil service. I sent some applications but have not received replies. I wonder whether it is because I'm not applying for jobs at the 'correct' level, even though the functions should be quite relevant.

Being a 'senior' exec is quite an awkward place to be? Not junior exec, so those 1-2 year exp positions that interest me don't call me back. Not management either, since no one is reporting to me currently.

Has anyone out there having a similar experience? I would be very grateful to hear any perspective/advice, as I have much to learn. Thanks in advance!

Current status: MNC comms/media industry, almost 4 years exp, in 'senior' exec position, mid-thirties, 2nd Upper Arts & MA (NUS)
