Curious about prospects of an underwriter

Recently, i saw this ad on underwriter graduate program for catlin group. Can anyone share some insights of the prospects of an underwriter?

Example yearly salary, career options,

Catlin is part of the Lloyd's insurance market (Lloyds of London) - You can wiki for more info.
You can also check on their website, they do mainly reinsurance business - both facultative and treaty. Catlin is one of the fastest expanding Lloyds companies in Singapore.

Is the post for Underwriting Assistant position? If it is, then is most prob a fresh entrant position.

From my understanding they pay on 12 mths basis, not sure whether have any variable bonus.
Prospect is quite good, pay wise Lloyd's companies generally pay better than other insurance companies for fresh entrants.

I think they will provide exposures and training if you are fresh entrant.

what does an underwrite do?

anyone has any idea roughly how much would the pay for this graduate programme be? as well as the pay of underwriters at: 1)entry level, 2)5 yr exp 3)more than 10 year exp. thanks

just curious, what's your background? Most underwriters are major in Actuarial Science......

a degree in actuarial is not required. I went into the industry with a diploma in IT, and while working I pursue an arts degree.

Some insurers will required you to have professional insurance certified such as ACII (Advanced Diploma in Insurance by CII) which I am now pursuing.

While it's true that Lloyds pay well then some other insurers. There are some insurers, even the local one that is paying better than Catlin or even the bigger names like Zurich. It's also quite common nowadays that most insurers pay on 12 months basis. My current and last companies pays on such basis.

Senior underwriter in a reinsurer - 11 years experience drawing 200+k per annum.
