Hi all,

i just grad recently and looking to join a japanese bank with 1yr++ of compliance exp. May i know for each promotion what is the increment like ? I've heard from friends that jap banks promote people based on the hours that they clocked for as long they dont screw things up big time. Is that true?

i worked at smbc before, among the 3 jap banks i found their environment and benefits the best. Unlimited dental ! no need to brush teeth every week see dentist also can. AM rank in SMBC is covered under union so they always try to help negotiate better bonuses and increments.

How soon they reply depends on how busy the boss or whoever is approving the headcount usually maybe a week or two.

For the other post, promotion increment is usually about 10-13%, as long as you dun screw up usually get auto-promoted in 2-3 years.

Thanks man. Your dental benefit description is interesting. Lol...
Btw, for the bonus, how many months can get normally.
Benefit side, what else beside dental is attractive?

Operations gets about 2.5 - 3 months. Front / middle office gets 3 - 6 months. I got ~5 months a few years back. Leave also not bad 24 days can carry over 1 year so up to 48 days. Work late past 7 pm can claim $15 makan money, after 8pm claim $20. Quarterly got free dinner (usually cheap fast food) from bank.

China Construction Bank Singapore office is quite small compared to BOC or ICBC which has quite large branches. Not to sure about their benefits but another small branch Agricultural Bank of China has very good benefits. Chinese new year angbao $888, official 1.5 hour lunch, working our 9-5.30, bonus average around 3 months.

Anyone know what is the life and pay scale of a specialist graded clerk for BTMU(operational)?
Finish the first round of interview with the HR, one more round of Interview with the Department head and a HR officer, afterwhich they say will go on training for 12 weeks at different deparments.

Wondering how is the life of a clerk and the things u learnt as well as the pay scale?

Appreciate if any one can answer my questions.

Default AIBD at BTMU

Hi guys, recently graduated this year from a uni in Japan. Was the top undergrad for class of 2014. Got half a year's internship experience at a american financial firm in Tokyo as well. I have got some limited experience working with LBO deals before so I can do some financial modeling. Managed to get my JLPT N2 in 2013 as well.

Recently got called up for a junior position (officer I believe) in the AIBD department at BTMU (Not under M&A team though). Was wondering if anyone has experience in AIBD and how the learning opportunities are like? Also, would 3k basic be considered too much to ask for?

Ahh the diploma programme, I saw a whole bunch of them during one of the compulsory compliance trainings held. Well they are rotated through a few back office operations departments after which they will join one of em.

Sad to say prospects and pay/increment etc for the diploma programme is quite limited as it follows the special grade clerk track. Best is to go take a degree after that and upgrade.

As for the AIBD question, they handle mainly investment banking or commodity trade products. Career advancement and bonus in those units are generally quite good compared to other parts of the bank.

Under the diploma scheme things you learn will mainly be focused on operational parts of the bank like remittance, account opening services, trade services, loan operations and what not. Life in operations is quite standard, boring work, generally no need to stay late. I expect starting pay to be around maybe 2k? increments like $100 or less a year.

Seriously recommend taking a private degree and moving out of the clerical rank structure. Also Japanese bank is not the best of places to start a banking career. Recommend taking degree after joining and moving out after finishing degree. Can join again when you are mid career.

For the AIBD guy yeah i think $3k is definitely fine and you should be able to learn quite alot whichever part of AIBD you join.
