No. of years exp

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask about the no. of years experience needed to "climb the ladder". Any input will be much appreciated. Below is my rough guess (not in banks currently)

Analyst = 0-1 years exp
Senior analyst = 2-3 years exp
Associate / asst mgr = 4-5 years exp
Senior associate / mgr / jr AVP = 6-7 years exp
AVP / jr VP = 8-9 years exp
VP = 10+ years exp

Also, does one usually go up the next grade by jumping banks or staying put?

All depends . But can be sure, different bank has different corporate ladder. Depending on which department. For my case, I am an asst mger after 1 yr of exp.

Roughly but different banks different route meaning different timeline needed for progression. But one thing is for sure is that 4-5 yrs of exp would start opening doors to many opportunities. Recruiters /hr / hiring mgrs r mostly "blind". With so many cv to screen, naturally they will look at years of relevant exp instead altho exceptions do hpn sometimes.

Senior analyst = 3.4 to 3.7++
Associate / asst mgr = 4.5 to 5.2++
Senior associate / AVP = 5.8 to 6.8++
AVP / jr VPs = 6.5 to 8++
VP = at the bare minimum the basic would touch 9s range. Normally, a seasoned VP (i.e with around 10years of exp) would take 5 digits monthly.

The figures are based on what i know from headhunters / ex colleagues in similar capacity. There's a blurred line drawn between assoc / snr assoc and AVPs. As far as i know, some banks used them interchangeably, meaning they inflate job titles to boost the "feel-good" factor but pay wise it is not even on the correct scale yet.

This pay scale is the same for all back end jobs? If I'm not wrong compliance is kinda back end too? It's only due to recent regulations change then they started to demand more ppl in it. Can anyone shed some light for operations too?

JPM working conditions

JPM recently hired more than 300 persons for there Changi Office. Working conditions are going to be gruelling with all these FT working overtime and weekends and everyone else expected to compete on similar lines.
