Diploma or Masters for maritime industry as a biz degree holder(SIM-RMIT)
Hi all,
I am a fresh degree graduate from SIM-RMIT Business Management course. Recently, I landed a job as a marine surveyor after months of job hunting. I understand my current job is not relevant to what I studied, but could be useful when it comes to report writing.
I have tried applying to jobs such as chartering, shipbroking, which my business degree could be used, but all came to naught as I dont have the marine experience most hiring companies sought after. I intend to work a few years and gain some working experience as a marine/bunker surveyor first before evaluating my options again.
Hence, I would like to pursue a course in maritime/marine studies so that I can progress further in my chosen industry.
Any kind veterans in this industry able to advise on whether I should take up a diploma or a Masters (if any), so that I am able to take on roles such as bunker surveyor or any job opportunities in the future which my certs could come in handy.
Much Appreciated.

do some homework about the courses. SP's Dip in nautical studies prepares you for life as a deck officer on the CoC route. is that what you want? NTU's Master's in nautical studies is more general but is a paper qualification or real life experience more important for a bunker surveyor?

I think experience/networking is more relevant in the marine industry. I would need a min. of marine diploma to be able to be a bunker surveyor.
