is this a normal condition for an overseas internship?

...we provide free accommodation for our interns near our office

Q. if I pay for my own accommodation and live in downtown Yangon by myself – can I still join your internship program?

A. We are not able to make exception at the moment as we want all our staff to be living in one place close to the office. This makes it easy for our manager to account for the interns as ultimately we are their sponsor, guarantor and employer in Myanmar and is responsible for their welfare.

Q. Will there be any curfew hours that I have to adhere to?

A. Yes, on weekday you must be back to your apartment by 10pm. On Friday and Saturday, you must be back by 11.55pm.

Internship is not meant for gaining relevant work experience

I think if you are looking for well paying internship - there are none available. Most big companies pay pittance to offer you an internship as they see it as their social responsibility and a PR exercise.

You need to decide if the work experience you gain is relevant to the type of career you want to pursue.

If you want to make more money you should be a waiter as there is a shortage of waiter now in the market and restaurant owners will pay like S$8 an hour for an enthusiastic Singaporean youth who is keen to serve.
