wow,i'm not familiar with the banking industry but sure it pays well!...for marketing with 6 years of experience max will only get half of what you are getting now...

A associate/analyst in a top MNC probably makes more than a Director in some SME.

It is the job scope and pay that counts, not meaningless titles. Developing a career in Marketing and other function is not easy straight forward like "I want to be a Marketing Manager in FMCG industry in 5 years making 5k".

The real world does not work like that.

A typical average grad gets 4-5% salary increase every year and 1 promotion increase worth 10-15% every 3-4 years, this is assuming you don't kana a recession which will result in pay freeze, cut or even retrenchment. I think the problem is more of your expectation, you need to be more realistic and not expect progression like a MAP associate in a MNC.

If you can get 3.5-3.8k when you are 30, combine with wife this is enough to buy a BTO and live life decently. My advice is don't need to be hung up over some random number like 5k before settling down.
This is the most sensible post so far.

5k very easy to hit in a few years, many marketing associates in global MNCs are already paid 8-12k and managers up to 20k depend on experience.

Maybe what you can do is to sit down and think of what you want to achieve in 5-10 years' time and what you can see yourself as by the end those years. Honestly speaking, most of us dream of getting a lot of money and retiring early. Quite impossible in the current situation since no job is ever a "secure job".

Have you heard of people who make money work for them? That kinda work requires a different kind of skills, not those taught in school. And it's better to work as your own boss rather than to work under a boss.

hmmm...yup,i have some small investments in equities..but very not alot due to limited warchest aka cash..and not very numeric savvy as well...so my investments are for long term horizon..

I've more or less figure out that i will be seen as more of a marketing communications fellow in the retail & F&B industry, would companies requiring product marketing personnel consider me? when i have like 3 years of experience?..by then ,yes i would have my expectations on salary..but i kind of anticipate that i may not be offered the desired remuneration since i do not have any real experience in product marketing although i have a marketing degree while the experience i have accumulated is more on marcom.

So its a choice of getting the desired experience and getting lower pay or advancing with something similar with higher probability of upgrading my remuneration?
