Obviously, since Shell & Exxon are of a diff league as compared to SPC. Also, they take in better calibre people. Naturally, the pay would be higher.

Was a process technician from Shell Bukom. I am also an intern with SRC during my ITE days.
Based on my observations during 2008 - 2010 era, Shell people like to study and give lots of e-learning, and has a dedicated plant trainer at every unit. They make sure you are trained step by step and constantly check on your understandings on the plant processes. No such thing as high calibre people, inside also have many action pack people, act know but actually dono, everyday cari makan also have, f-up people + carry ball type also have.
As for SRC, last time older generation even security guard or taxi driver also can go in become process technician, but newer generation they take alot of ITE people but also can work one, like they say "hokkien peng" (hokkien army), cannot study but can work one alot inside SRC, u ask them process they dono how to explain, but they go out can troubleshoot. And SRC is kampung spirit, if your unit upset, everyone from all other units will come and help you, you wont die alone, even your routine work also people will help you out. hahaha. Inside control room supervisor wear slipper cook curry chicken for everybody to eat one. Really like kampung.
Pay wise, Shell basic can be lower than SRC by $200-$300, Shell bonus typically fixed around total 6-7 months with a mix of AWS/VB/Holiday lump sump. SRC bonus last time was 10 month to 12 months, now i am not sure.
Last time old generation SRC culture was very bad, now i dono, shd be improved as newer generations have taken over.
Hope these info helps.
