Supply Chain Manager - salary and how to reach there from SCM financial analyst
 

Hi

I used to be a process engineer in one of the largest semicon plant for 3 years , then internal transfer to be an cost accountant for 1 yr, followed by one year at big four, now a supply chain financial analyst

Ive been in engineering n finance field long enough to make up my mind to be a supply chain manager, as the job is not dealing with number (bean counting) all days long, can be away from office frequently (visiting warehouse or manufacturing plant) and can be potentially well paid than a decent finance manager

and I dont think I can be a financial controller

I ve got mechanical engr degree in ntu, ACCA, and now almost finish CPIM (one unique cert for supply chain)

wish to check on:

1. Is my assumption correct? Supply chain manager paid better than finance manger? Can it be up to 10k? (I am ok for 7-10k)

2. I got no interest in joining bank or investment bank or private equity... so I didnt study CFA at all...is this a right choice? CFA helps in supply chain career?

3. I m now in my early 30, stepping between two diciplines, can kindly compare prospect of career and future financial rewards between finance and supply chain management?

the supply chain manager in my company did not take your route. he was an engineer in the aerospace industry all along. His salary is about 8k. Not being paid more than finance manager, engineering manager or quality engineer. Perhaps it differs across industries.

What does supply chain manager do anyway? Visiting wArehouses and stuff...sounds like warehouse or logistics manager...which sounds quite low classs. Sounds like uncle in short sleeve shirt stressed and tired at coffeeshop, if fired will have no alternatives unless connections needing another warehouse to be managed. Like sitting in dhl warehouse.

You engineer and finance really want to do that? Or is my understandijng of scm wrong?
