The reason: They need people to fire-fight everyday on a 24-7 basis. If they can do without the employee for 6 months, they could do without him forever. So no-pay leave is actually not an option.
my two cents by responding to the question of whether you should take a break from career: if you need a break, take it. reason is because you need it to regain some balance in your emotional and mental health state..

it is not possible to use logic and reason to justify every decision you make. if that is the case, everyone would not need to make choices - just work, earn lots of money until you die. that is the best scenario, right? because you are being a responsible family man or woman.

but we are humans, who have likes and interests beyond the workplace. who sometimes need a break. don't consider the company's interests because when it comes to your life, they only care about their own bottomline and interests. only you value and have an interest in your own life.

consider the other options of having that desired break and weigh out the pros and cons. and go for what feels best for you and your family.

all the best, and good luck!

How do you cope with job seeking ? Do you not let your spouse know you are jobless while you dare not go home but loitering in cafes after a job interview, pretending you are employed and return home at usual evening ?
I was recently fired and now actively seeking for job. Been to interviews but prefer not to return home. Feeling very down and depressed and stressed. Please don't ask me why I don't wish to go home and have support all that. I just do not want my family members to worry.

Oh no. Do u mind sharing the reason why the company terminate u? This must be a real difficult period for u. Please try to distract urself with healthy activities to avoid sinking into depression. I understand that u may not wish for ur family to worry. But u should at least share with ur spouse. U need to have some support. All the best.

Did you get the job?

Would society be so unforgiving to scrutinize my break at mid-career?

I hate to give explanations despite it being a planned rest schedule.

Long holiday trip for what purpose? If 1 to 2 months break can say long holiday trip. But 5 to 6 months can meh? Can stay in a country for so long meh?

Backpacking ard the world for 6 months is normal, or go overseas volunteer community work.
