Default matchup.co

I had quite a number of friends who had their internship offers rescinded.... we live in incredible times. Initially it was pretty difficult for me to get one. I'm thankful that I was one of the few that clinched an internship and it was thanks to these guys (matchub.co) that I am where I am today. I heard of it through a university friend who recommended it to me and signed up with them, never thought i could get an internship during such times. Would recommend for y'all to check it out cos it helped me clinch an internship position. I'm gna share the link w y'all: (matchub.co/index.php/register/) Hope this helps for anyone that is looking for an internship!

a) a wage freeze for 2yrs ie, 2013-2014. for those 2 years, my monthly income will not increase.

b) leave - not allowed to take leave during Christmas, New Year, chinese new year and Easter.

c) I have to cover other staffs' work, I am a paralegal but have to cover other secretaries work.

d) on top of that, I have to make sure I have enough billables to cover my ass.

e) probation period is 4.5months!!!

not sure if I should take this job or give it a miss!
What industry and role is this? I have never heard of such terms before!

He says he's a paralegal.
I'm a lawyer... have been in the industry for 6 years now and i've never heard of such an arrangement. While i admit that sometimes working on public hols is necessary, this is not the same as saying cannot take off on public hols. I'm just wondering if there is a communication gap here between OP and the law firm?

Also, ya, the term "paralegal" in Singapore is rarely differentiated from "seccy". There is very little difference in the scope of work, which is why seccys can sometimes be paid a **** load of money.

"seccy" is differentiated from "recep". Pay is also very different.

Hi all, I am planning to get my integrated shield plan (i.e hospitalization plan) in place and I am not sure if it is worth getting coverage for private hospitals (instead of A class coverage in government hospitals, given the significant differences in premium?

Here are a few points I am considering
a) comfort
I personally think that in terms of comfort, single bedder (i.e A class) in government hospital is pretty decent and comparable with private hospitals. (My Mum was warded in NUH A class ward in Kent ridge wing last year and I think the room is fine)
b) Waiting time
With regard to patient care, I would assume that the waiting time for appointments, investigations (eg scans etc) are a lot faster in private as compared to public hospitals (esp when it comes to semi-urgent/routine cases).
c) Medical expertise
I would think that private hospitals have greater expertise (given that they are all senior consultants running the show/in charge). However, I have heard from my friends working in restructured hospitals, that they do get referral/transfers from private doctors for complex surgeries/medical cases, or if they cannot manage certain post surgical complications
d) Follow up
Another factor that I am thinking of is that follow up outpatient care may be a lot more expensive in private (may not be covered by hospitalization plans) and this may be quite significant if I do develop chronic diseases

Just wondering what do people think?

No need buy insurance. When you are already without a job. Should consider dying instead.

Default 5 months unemployment

After 5 months of unemployment. Quit my job just before CNY 2020. I finally got a job today.

Went for many interviews since Feb 2020 and was either ghosted by companies who said they will move me to the next round and disappeared or had companies that really wanted to push the salary down to a ridiculously low level, especially statutory boards and companies related to ministries. In between I have been told that there is headcount freeze and midway through the interview process particularly during the start of circuit breaker. Then as the position was readvertised. I reached out directly to the HR and was told the readvertisement was automatic on job boards like LinkedIn Glassdoor etc. Further dashing hope that there are jobs available.

Held out cos financially I was okay and staying with my parents due to covid as I had to run errands and do the marketing for them as they are elderly and have rented out my apartment at a higher than market rate during covid to stranded workers on a short term basis.

While interviews took place over video conferencing over 2 months, the wait for a verbal offer is 3 weeks from last interview and the written offer another 5 weeks. That's 8 weeks plus post interview. Really stretching my patience a little.

Thank God the written offer finally came through after such a long delay. Expected to start ASAP as I have heard horror stories of friends who have quit their jobs and before starting new job had the offer rescinded and the company paid the notice period (probation notice period of 2 weeks) and call it a day. Making them stuck in a bad place with no jobs.

Please don't give up. I think I applied many many jobs with no call backs for a long time. Please press on.

Congratulations! Happy for you and gd to hear your gd news. Can I ask you to explain abit on what you deem as a lowball offer from SB and GLCs? Think I might need to manage expectations for my job search during this time, many thanks in advance!

I don't think gov will lowball you. They had a budget and salary range for each role and what they offer you should be based on your work experience or possibly the average salary of similar roles in that department.

In any case, it will be around your last pay or higher.

About 8 years ago, I was offer 2.7k despite my asking was 2.1k. So you go figure...
