Depends on specialty/department. I've worked for 2 European MNCs (both listed with RHQs in SG) and generally speaking...

Assuming competent technical abilities, European managers generally look out for people with experience working with internationals teams. Working with an all jap team does not count. So i would say it's not so much about whether it's a jap/us/european firm but rather what kind of international exposure you get from the team you will be working with.

yes, I am in finance/accounting and unfortunately i have been jobless for 1.5 months. and recently an offer came along to work for a jap mnc... team is all local inc manager, but big boss is japanese though. hence im torn between accepting this offer while i still have a job (and probably continue looking ard), or hold out for something which i can forsee myself in the long term.

Tbh, economy isn't doing well right now... and isn't expected to improve in the next 2 years or so. In Europe especially... many European companies are forcing their expats to move to local contracts and downsizing where possible. Just this week deutsche bank cut almost 18k jobs across NY/London/HK/SG.

If the choice is job or no job - my advice would be to take whatever job comes your way. May seem a little old school, but food on the table today allows you to fight another day.

i guess that would be the practical thing to do, problem is i stayed in my last job for only 5 months before quitting, and I am afraid of making another rash mistake and be stuck with it for the next few years

Been on the hunt for 2 months and finally found a job and fortunately relatively good pay considering it's a career change and restart for me without experience. I am rather picky and rejected 3 offers due to pay, jobscope etc because I would rather hold out a little longer for something I really want to do with good career prospects than to accept any low-pay job that is not my first choice and get stuck with it for the next few years. Any job you take on now is going to create a chain effect in your resume eg expected pay when you jump in future.

Good luck everyone!

I'm the original poster. I am in a niche market with high turnover rate which i won't disclose. I don't know what you meant by 3 huge employment gaps is unheard of but i take it you meant it negatively which i beg to differ.

In the perfect world we leave because of positive reasons like better offer etc and start a new job with a brief week's break to tie up loose ends. However in the real world we leave a job mostly due to ****ed up colleagues / toxic environment etc which we doesn't have much time to look for a new job to jump.

I personally don't consider 4 or 7 months a big gap. Ask around, usually it takes average 6 months to land a job. I ever landed jobs within 2 months and even the recruiter was surprised and told me - that average it takes 6 months. I known people who find good jobs after 1 whole year of nothing.

However much we like to pinpoint what is good and what is bad traits in job hunting - i'm afraid there is none. A company wants you due to their own reason, not because of your reason.

For example the recent interview i turned down, was by a big government related organisation - when other small organisations didn't even call me up for interview. Does this meant a big government organisation don't mind my gap while the small organisation does?

I'm the original poster and i'm in mid 30s. Like i said, exercise, don't regress and keep your life as per your old self. This is provided you have savings to rely on. Otherwise if financial is already become tight, you might want to find a temp job to tide through.

Stay strong guys. And i'm not entertaining jokers relating sexual advantages for us who are already going through a tough patch finding a job.

Congrats on the new job! If I may ask, what was the reason you left and how did you cope during these 2 months?
