sadly this is how the older generation of hiring managers (which is the majority) think though, although the younger ones are more open minded

If you look presentable, I don't see why the look should affect the hiring chance. Are you saying some ppl look like Shriek and some look like Romeos ?

If you are attending Mr or Ms Singapore interview , then look is priority.

Otherwise they are hiring ppl who are capable of working not capable of grooming.

I started my career in a company that didn't care much about appearance/upkeep. As long as work was done on time and billings were consistent, nothing much else mattered.

Then i left my old company and joined corporate in a big MNC..... and the culture shock was real. You really have to look the part, if not you won't be taken seriously. Word of warning for the ladies, i guess. Every single female higher management staff at my office dress very well, has impeccable makeup skills and wear heels all the time. Even if it is block heels or kitten heels, it is always heels.

To some extent, the poster above is accurate.

The long and short of it is to look presentable..no need to be a beauty or hunk.
In the corporate world, you are assessed by yr performance, not how good you look, even in sales.

Some people here really get triggered by sensible posts that reflect the realities of life. I'm not talking about the obvious trolls who post about sleeping around but the sensible posts that point out looks matter quite a fair bit, and some interviewers choose based on looks, when it is down to the wire and everything else equal. Of course, must be backed with intelligence and experience.

Dressing up, dolling yourself up and keeping yourself fit doesn't mean you must sleep with the bosses. You don't have to wear tight fitting clothes or low cut, dress decently to show your self-respect. Human nature dictates that people like to look at beautiful things, so they are more likely to pick candidates who look better when everything else is equal.

Exercising and keeping fit also helps with your mental well-being and keeps you optimistic in the gloomy market.

If you can't accept this hard truth, then continue deluding yourself that people will judge based on your inner beauty.

My 34E cups plus push ups bra is the best weapon to get me sakes. I can vouch for that. Sex sells specially in client facing roles.

Well said. A truth that can't be handled by those who can't admit their flaws with honesty.
