Jobless for 15 months. Been applying on and off since Feb.

When I apply to jobs now, the HR calls back and comment that I have been unemployed for too long. Then no more follow up after that. Probably thrashed my resume already without even forwarding to any hiring manager.

But the irony is as long as I don't get hired, the problem can only get worse at the weeks go by, while I wait for any interview. And the next HR is going to pick on the same issue. I have no control over hiring decision.

Feeling helpless and depressed.

The HR look down on job seekers without jobs for long time. They do not give chance at all!
I think you need to tap on your network to help you find jobs. In the meanwhile, you can setup a business as a self employed freelancer/contractor to show you have been doing something over the 15 months

Don't be silly and emo over nothing. Have you ever work in ops recruitment before?

HR receive hundreds of CVs everyday, you are nothing but an attached file that they open for 10 sec, screen for key word, then close. They couldn't care less about you, much less spend time to "look down" you.

Why on and off ? It does seem to the HR that you are in no hurry to get hired ? And is the HR actually a recruitment agent ? And why would the HR even bother to contact you to tell you that you are unemployed for too long ? Wouldn’t they just filter and shortlist candidates ?

No. I applied direct to company. The HR might have an SOP to call up candidates who send in just to do a first screening to understand the candidate or clarify some details?

I applied to companies and jobs I am interested in and I have the relevant skills or experience. Sent out about 30+ applications since. Most no replies. Each time I send out a few, the HR might need a week or 2 to make contact. So I waited, and repeat every 2 weeks or so.

Anyway, the job postings are mostly repeating these days from a few companies or agencies. They keep reposting the same old jobs. No new ones. Those that I qualify for I have more or less applied already.

So you actually have legit reasons to explain the gap. Don’t worry. It is the way you put the reasons to words. Just don’t give up. Humane companies can understand.
