They are stringent in the sense that they have many applicants for each job opening because of the brand name, but during my stay there I dont think Apple employees on average are better than any other MNC. Of all the interviews I went to, Microsoft was the most stringent followed by Oracle and Google (all 3 I did not advance beyond 1st interview)

that's kinda on the high side, what role is that? I know for the junior role for degree holder as technical support is around 3k per month? so 36k p.a

Microsoft - Apple - Oracle
Interesting, i used to work in Microsoft (albeit as a contractor) for 2+yrs, lasted to the last round of interviews at Oracle (i was offered a job at my current company - another huge US MNC first before they had a chance to offer me) & lasted to the last round of interviews at Apple (they chose the other guy instead of me). Before all these i was working at Motorola for 2 yrs...
An impressive resume with brand name ex-employers can be useful sometimes....

What degree do you have to hold to get into tech firms like this? Computer engineering? I am an IB student hoping to make it into the tech firms but I'm contemplating to take either law or computer science engineering courses in uni.

Go with law. Don't be a technical expert in any engineering field - these jobs can easily be done by people who have brains but can't speak well.

In tech companies, techies who can speak well are usually the ones that get paid more. Speak well means you need to be able to translate tech terms into business terms and engage people at various level.
