working part time in civil service
 

Hi all i am currently working in a private sector and due to start my new job in the civil service.. i have been holding on to a part time job with cpf contribution ever since i start work in the private sector.. Problem is has anyone have hold another part time job while in civil service?.. this part time job has cpf contribition somemore.. what happens if get caught?.. working extra cos getting married and house soon.. need to chiong all the way..

Personally I would advise you stop this unauthorised moonlighting.

If caught, serious enough given the sack. If you lucky maybe get away with a serious warning letter for this infraction. but then your prospect for the rest of your career there will be affected.

There have been many cases people thought under the table money no CPF, bank transfers safe but in the end still kena caught. If your part time comes with CPF is not whether get caught, is when get caught.

You will have to let your new boss and HR know about this part-time job (what is it btw?).

But most likely, your boss will want to err on the safe side, cos he doesn't want to open a can of worms. Imagine after granting you permission, the next day his whole team come asking him for formal permission to moonlight.

Actaually when i go interview last time HR ask for my cpf contribution they saw im working two jobs so she say this is not allowed if i sign on with org.. i wonder if the boss has power to grant me permission to work.. its actually just a part time despatch job on sat to earn some small extra money and mingle ard with my friends.. Somemore first day work ask boss that question is that ok?.. wont he have a bad impression of me?.. haha..

you never work in civil service before isit?

dont be naive, your boss have totally no say on whether you can work pt, this is policy driven from the top and not up for negotiation.

don't try to punk ard with hr just to get some extra small change esp when they already instructed you specifically during interview, it aint worth to get terminated over stupid things like this.

Of cos there are many ways to shift and undertable, but best is dun do it. if you need two jobs why you go join civil service?

Its really easy to get you into serious trouble if someone dun like you

don't scare him - it won't be "serious" trouble cos it's just a violation of the employment contract, nothing criminal. worst case will only be dismissal.

getting dismissed by civil service is serious trouble, it will be almost impossible for him to find another job in public sector

even in pte sector you have to declare if you have ever been dismissed before in application form. you will be forced to lie and potentially get dismissed again in the future or state the truth & lower ur chances during interview

if he's smart, he can turn it around by saying honestly that he's dismissed for moonlighting. and he moonlighted because he had the drive to earn more money for the good of his family. if i'm the boss, i will hire him for having the drive and the willingness to work hard for money.

much better than people who criminally cheat, lie, manipulate, and corruptly award taxpayers-funded contracts to friends and family or in exchange for sexual favours.
