Default Finance ops analyst / accountant

Hi All, my company is currently hiring finance and accounting students due to constant expansion and turn over rate as well. Do contact us if u would like to apply as the company policy seems to at least shortlist the candidate for an interview if they are being referred by current employee.

Start pay: 3000/mth, salary adj every 6months depending on performance

We try to help refer graduates who are interested in the role as the company give referral fees if we actually refer them suitable candidates (they dont have to source and filter for candidates).

Just some info to let u have a better idea of the people working here.
Quite a handful of fresh grad start working at this co. From the people i know in the co., most are:
- Ntu Graduates
- Smu Graduates
- SIM UOL Graduates with Second Upper Class Honours & Above
- SIM RMIT Graduates with Distinction

Any queries can email us at alaricwoon@gmail .com or u can forward your resume to us, we will send to our HR Team and CC-ed you in the email to follow up!

Default Change strategy

Hi guys, I know that the job hunt is tough at the beginning.

I would suggest that you do not compete with the Local Uni Grads in where the competition is highest. E.g. Big 4, Big MGMT consulting firms, Big banks etc. It is a huge mess over there even for local uni grads. For us Pte Uni grads, we will definitely be on the bottom of the feeding chain if we do not have experience.

Instead, for your first job, focus on securing a job in an SME. Of course, do this with an aim in mind. If you want to get into one of the Big 4 as an auditor for example, do a job that will give you enough experience to make that jump. SMEs struggle to hire talent and that is where you want to look. Simple supply and demand. You'll even find that SMEs pay Pte Uni Grads better compared to Bigger firms. Remember that Local Uni Grads always go for the big and trendy firms so SMEs usually don't get many applications from them.

For myself, I joined an SME as a Management Trainee with a 2.5k pay for 6 months.
This became 3k after the training period.

After staying for 1.5 years, with a pay of 3.5k, I made the jump.

Aced the interview at a smaller MNC and secured a pay package of 4k. It is easy to impress these companies as all you have to do is show some interest. For me, I did my research. Began to meet more competition at interviews from Local Uni Students. For them, these companies were not their priority and their expected salary tends to be high. I had experience, was hungry enough to do extensive research, and my expected salary was backed by my experience. (Plus you have to learn the art of Fluffing. Talk to a few SMU chaps to learn that)

Right now, I have been working for 2 years, with a salary of 4k. I'm expecting a raise at the end of the year. The pay is not the highest but I feel that it's not that shabby.

I'm in Project/Contract Management and I'm dealing with Aircraft. Of course, Im considering furthering my studies so I can develop on this path. But this method worked kind of well for me! I hope this works well for you too

Accept that the degree sucks, but at least you have one. Maximize the hell out of it and get yourself some job experience that will sit in your resume nicely. Polish up on your interview and speech skills as well.

Lol ya, can confirm.

Started out in an SME audit firm getting 2.5K.
6 months later, I was promoted and drawing 2.8k.
This Feb, not promoted but pay increment to 3K.
I decided to leave for industry accounting, I requested for 3.9k.

Ok la, after 2 years of working from 2.5K to 3.9K.
Tho sometimes, the money you felt you'd left on the table (due to not having Local U cert) stings.

Be thankful you got a job and made it, compared to your peers.

I strongly agree. I suggest all prospective SIM-RMIT comrades to have fun during poly and not aim for GPA above 3.. It's our youth we should not worry about our studies. As long you have financial means to pay for SIM fees, your poly results won't matter too much. Look at the losers who entered NUS or NTU. They worked their asses off during poly and at the end, we SIM grads earn way more than them!

This is stupid advise. Work hard during your poly, try your best to get into a local uni if possible. If all else fails, sure try private uni, never give up.

Why try to enter local uni when there's so many examples here that states that SIM grads are more valued and earn significantly more than NUS or NTU grads?
