EXACTLY. My thoughts as well.

I wonder if hiring managers know that if they drag so long in their recruitment process, they could miss out the potential candidates if the candidates got a job offer elsewhere.

This is not a concern to them.

But if they finally make an offer to the candidates and the candidates already got jobs elsewhere, the company gotta repeat the hiring process all over again in search of other candidates.

U should just call and check with the HR. It's faster this way.

Default Regarding background check

I was charged in court for a traffic offence and fined $1,500 and licence disqualified 5 years ago. Have since got back my licence. Will I ever pass the background check? Would like to know so that I don't have to waste time applying and going for interview if they will never hire me...

Thanks in advance...

Definitely have chance as it is not a criminal offence. If you commit a criminal offence then don't need to think about it anymore.

But anyway they will have records of you. So when there are few candidates to choose from, they might choose those without any records at all. But I think just go ahead and try since traffic offence is pretty common, unless you hit and kill some people then its a different story.

In Careers @ Gov, every job advertisement has a "no. of vacancies". Is it accurate? Cos i see most job advertisement only have 1 job vacancy. Imagine hundreds of candidates vying for 1 job vacancy.

Actually if possible try to apply directly through the organisation's website, the chance of getting will be higher compared to applying through the careers@gov website.
