Nus ise vs ece
I have just been notified by NUS that I may be admitted to the PHD program in ECE or ISE. Because of the nature that I cannot separate myself into two can study ECE and ISE at the same time. I have to choose one. A difficult choice, frankly. Any suggestion from you fellas?

If the reason you're seeking advice here is related to the name of the forum, then my answer is "neither".

I assume that you have done pretty well in your bachelor of engineering, perhpas a First Class. I have a peer who had gotten CAP 4.9 and he was offered a scholarship to pursue PhD in the similar field. He is now managing research teams in A*Star. If this field is your interest and you are aware of the career options ahead of you. Why not?

Opps.. I did not address your concern directly.
That friend of mine took up the PhD scholarship in ECE. I think he's either bonded to NUS or A*Star. (Not sure)

Why not apply to a more reputable overseas university that can give you a teaching fellowship?

Well, it's up to individual. NUS FOE is actually not so bad. It's ranked 7th in the world and 2nd in Asia, ahead of Tokyo University, according to 2011 TIMES Higer Education ranking.
I'm glad I have skimmed through the course. Phew...

Thank you very much for your kind reply. But I can tell you I chose both of the majors out of my interest, just didn't expect that I may be accepted by both of them. I post it here because I think there are lots of people hanging around with industry experience and have seen a lot of graduates from these two fields. Their advises may be very constructive.

You just hit the nail on the head, sir. There are really a lot of great professors in the FOE department of NUS that a lot of foreign universities that may not be able to have

Unfortunately, NUS is not really _that_ well known in the world, to be brutally honest. Nobody gives a damn to the Times ranking. To many people in the world, the best engineering schools are the top ones in the US and UK.
