Hi fellow HR folks,

My current HR portfolio is a mixture of HR Ops and HRBP, more of the former I would say. I've been doing this for 6 years and would like to move on to focus HRBP.

I noticed most of the job advertisements for HRBP will indicate "HR administrative duties" in the jd. I am not sure whether I should apply for these vacancies, I'm worried it will just be the same as my current job.

Where do u all normally search for HRBP roles? I find that those advertising in online job portals are mostly recruitment agencies for HR admin roles. For newspapers, I seldom come across HRBP as well.

Thanks in advance

Real HRBP roles are mostly recruited through headhunters and are seldom posted randomly online. You will need to get out and network more to get them, but it also depends on whether you qualify with relevant exp.

Since you are mostly doing ops generalist work, I doubt any employer will just hire you straight into a real BP position. You should try and get into a global MNC with a RHQ here as a generalist first and make your way into a hipo program before seeking internal transfer to a specialist. That is more feasible.

HR Ops and HRBP are at 2 completely different level in terms of responsibility and pay, I dont think there is such as thing as mixture of both...

What is the market rate of a HRBP leading a team of 2 analysts in the oil & gas industry looking after 2 business line in SEA+ANZ, total headcount 1,700?

Thanks.

Thks for your advice

I don't know where can I network. Would having a linkedin profile helps?

I've already went for for 2 interviews with RHQ. Turned out that they have only a small office here (70-80), with only 1 HRM and 1 HRE (the role i interviewed for). I don't see any room for progression and it's still HR Ops jd.

Because my HR exp is only in a local firm (staff strength ard 500), it's really hard to score interviews with MNC with bigger HR teams.

From what I gathered about HRBP responsibilites, I find some matches what I'm doing now. Like writing/reviewing policies, budgetting (training/manpower), working closely with HODs on manpower needs and employee issues, manpower analysis, employee engagement, etc. I am supporting a couple of BUs.

But I do find what I am doing is very surface. I'm sure a HRBP in a MNC is doing more indepth work.

My personal take is you need to be realistic and not expect to jump from administrator into a top specialist function just by changing a job. With just SG basic experience in a local firm, it is not realistic to expect MNCs to hire you as a BP. Even if it's an entry level specialist associate role, they would still prefer recent grads with top credentials.

The most realistic way for people like you who start from Ops administration is to continue to chalk up exp over the next 15-20 years and progress until at least a local HR Director or regional HR Manager level in a global MNC (i.e. basic pay ~15k-20k) and then request to do a transfer to BP. I have seen a number of people in their early 40s who went through this route and transit to specialist successfully.

IMO at your current level, the headhunters will not bother with you, direct applications will be ignored and bumming around companies declaring you want to be a BP will just land you in some fancy title BP job but doing grunt operations work in the end.

Default HR Analytics / HRIS prospects

My current portfolio revolves around HRIS and Reporting in a foreign MNC - 3 years

Engineering Degree - Local U.
Mthly Salary, Basic 3.9k (with OT: ~5-5.2k)

What will be my possible next steps to move the career ladder? My job scope is not the usual HRIS / Ops kind of role. But more on projects like system deployment at new entities, region wide system roll out etc, global reporting automation...

Wanted to move to HR analytics, doing strategic prediction, data analysis, retention strategy etc.

Is it a good move? Or should I be better off to do C&B or rewards? What kind of salary can I expect? I am looking to hit around 8k in the next 3 years, possible?

Thanks a lot!

Sounds like your job is more IT project co-ordination supporting HR than any HR specialization. You can join a management consultancy as entry level analyst for C&B or join a reputable firm providing solutions SAP / PS modules to gain HRIS experience.
