Of course, most teachers max out at GEO1A3. SEO1, 1A1, 1A2 are for SH/LH, HOD, VP ranks respectively.

As mentioned before, pay alone won't sustain you... really need to find the job meaningful to go on. That said, if you think you'll enjoy it, the numbers above should help you make a decision
The system is not very transparent.
If you hold a position, you are actually given allowance for the so-called extra work. It's contradictory. An LH, HOD or SH has higher pay and expected to perform better but very often, he/she has a much lighter teaching load and off loaded from CCA and other admin work. So, it's only fair that they perform to the expection. But very often, they are graded B in the performance appraisal which should've been higher than expectation... Easily a 5-figure amount. And who does the sh** work? Work was delegated to the overloaded teachers who are probably graded C or C+. What's the rationale? It's no wonder the high turnover rate.

Thanks for the advice. I would call MOE HR to check. Does anyone know where I can obtain the number? intranet IAMS? is there a specific payroll department or something?

We're both relatively early in our career though (first 3 years), maybe things change later.

Also, I've no idea if increments are actually percentage-based, if it's a fixed $100 (average) annual increment? Generally, annual increments aren't particularly large. It's a comfortable enough salary, but can forget about becoming rich through teaching alone!
I've no idea how you get the idea that increment is solely based on your performance. It's only a small fraction. There are many other factors. Example, my friend joins the industry after working in a marketing firm for 10yrs. Her pay was adjusted accordingly from the very beginning. She was promoted to 1A1 in the first year n the next year 1A2, getting close to 5K per month. Comparatively, a young diploma holder joined for 4yrs and not even promoted once! Another friend worked for 10yrs before getting A2! As far as I know, the diploma holder has much better performance grade than the other teacher. So, as you can see, age, working exp, qualification, the potential grading, management recommendation etc, also play a part in the increment. Not a very fair system as you are ranked with colleagues in school where you probably put in 100% n get C while another one can get B doing only 50% of you have contributed in another school.

If u want to join teaching be prepared to do more than just teach. Based on my experience as a Reporting Officer, teachers are required to lead in initiatives in cca, pedagogy research and sharing, partnership with parents etc which accounts fr major part of performance. It is a given to teach well. Many mid careers esp assume that they will be well rewarded if they teach well but teaching well is an expected norm. To get C+ and B+, u need to be show contributions above just teaching well and that is where the other areas come in. as a teacher you wont see the strategic n organizational planning work like SEM and BSC work that hods and Shs do and thus have perception they are doing less for more.

Any teacher can share what the starting pay is for a fresh grad from local uni?

I applied for another government job and I got $200 above the maximum which is stated on the website for passed degree.

if you're male singaporean you get the ns increment ontop of your starting pay.

well, I am pretty sure those government career websites have already factored in the NS portion for male applicants.

What I gather is that the salaries stated on the websites are just ballpark figures and the actual amount they give could actually be quite different.

And, what I am actually interested to know is what's the starting pay like for GEO 1, local uni grad?

What you talking about? The posted salaries on the ministry website are without the ns component because obviously(unfortunately) not everyone does ns.

There are some Subject Head etc. allowances but it shouldn't be too far off from the posted numbers. If you're talking about ballpark figures we have a very narrow band and small ballpark to begin with here.

Just sharing something someone posted earlier. (kudos to the person who uploaded it in the first place):

GEO1A1: 3380-5540
GEO1A2: 4450-6912
GEO1A3: 4806-7452
SEO1: 5184-8316
SEO1A1: 7236-9288
SEO1A2: 8748-11232

SEO is for HOD and above.
Most teachers retire at the GEO1A3 grade.
