MOE should pay its good teachers decently.

“The average salary of a full-time tutor who teaches with us for at least one year is about $16,000 a month. I have a 24-year-old who makes $24,000 a month. I’m constantly on the lookout for good teachers,” says Mr Heng, whose tutors work on a commission model.

Even SEOs cannot make this kind of pay in MOE while doing all kinds of work unrelated to teaching.

In the private sector, the higher the levels you can teach, the more the hourly rate you can receive. In the MOE, more work can equate to the same or even less pay.

Sadly, by looking at the number of KP STs per school, it seems that good teachers are not valued properly while the wayang ones are those who get disproportionate pay while making everyone else lives miserable.

How high can AEDs climb?

Also, AED scheme lacks job security. Still remember how they shut down the AED(T&L) scheme and the methods used to force AEDs to leave.

Maybe can consider going to guidance branch and do SEN-related work to get a feel first.
SEN is under Psychological Services Branch, not Guidance Branch.

Teachers are paid very well already! Plus connect plan and bonuses! Still want how much? Where do you think the salaries will come from if we are paying every teacher $25K?! Taxpayers’ money pls. Pls use your brain

I have seen good and bad examples. These centers are results-driven. In fact, they are more ruthless than SLs. If you are confident that you can produce results, please go ahead because centers can really pay more. If you are not a star tutor, you might be fired after a year. My friend is a star tutor who raked in 300k a year. But I also have colleagues who returned to teaching after a failed stint in the tuition industry (and he is a decent teacher).

Yup, the expectations of teachers are first and foremost to teach in a way that drives exam results progression, because that is what parents first and foremost are paying for (and care about). The parents couldn't care less about what tech tools you use in class, holistic development, joy of learning, etc. You will probably use little of what drives/motivates you in the school classroom, unless it makes huge impact on exam results.

If your students don't jump grades, you're not a star tutor, no matter how enjoyable your lessons used to be in MOE classrooms.

For another data point: one of the teachers in my prev school got around 450 from geo3 to geo4. Had quite a good perf grade. This is about an 8.5% increase from their geo3 salary point.
