Give more SLS lessons. No need to mark so much

Do flipped classroom. Content learning at home via SLS.

That's assuming a perfect class scenario, where all the students will obediently self-study at home.

Usually will have at least a quarter who don't, and you end up having to teach the whole thing all over again.

languages and humanities known for being writing-heavy. And barely have mcq.

As for joining less intensive CCA and committees, some people don't have much of a choice. The positions are highly in demand. Usually will end up being dumped in wherever manpower is needed.

However, I have seen some colleagues who are great at outsourcing and delegating though. A lot of CCA work delegated to student leaders, sometimes student development work also, if in committees related to student development.

So the trouble here is that it’s a lot of work to delegate to students, because the result comes back unsatisfactorily and you spend a lot of time fixing it, or guiding them to fix it.

But I choose to continue doing so because it’s this sort of thing which prepares them for the future. I sketch out what they need to know, I ask them to do up a draft plan and proposal, and I sit down to see their drafts and give them critiques and help them think about things that they have missed. Their proposals evolve, they learn to do staff work (which is what a lot of HQ work involves too), but you teach them to think through their roles as student leaders.

And then just as they get decent at it, they step down. Sigh.

So I usually structure it this way: first six months of their term is training (luckily, a bit more free in T4 after exams, when they start planning year end camps etc), then your December holidays is intensive with them and they learn what and how you would like things done, and you stamp out silly habits they have. Then in Jan-May/June, I tell them that I will leave it to them to execute and I merely check in. If you put in the effort and do it right in the first six months, they usually can do a decent job (especially if you’ve done this with a few cycles and their seniors have left proper documentation, and helped you to talk to them behind the scenes).

Have high standards, and they will eventually rise to meet it.

The engagement sessions are not mean for rank and file to engage the leadership with their problems.

It's the other way round.

It's for the leadership to engage with the rank-and-file, that they should not be complaining.

Too much marking? Use SLS

Facing emotional stress? Can use MOE Chatbot, or speak to your Wellness Ambassador, or buddy, nevermind that they have their own heavy work to do.

Not enough teachers? Tell you that teachers are in excess, continue to cut headcount. Implement home-based learning days so that schools can continue to run amidst teacher shortage.

Working hours are too long? Reduce the number of items teachers can declare during the annual updating of teaching information, and put a cap on the number of hours teachers can declare. Hey presto, an overworked teacher is instantly transformed into a freeloader who works very few hours in a week. Now we need to cut the excess headcount further

What problems?
