7 years in this. It's really tiring me out.
A mistake in year 3 of service made me get a C-.
But it has been so many years. Still GEO1. Still a C grader.

😔
A C- would mean no promotion for the next 3 years. In year 3, you made a mistake resulting in a C-. This would mean it's reflected in your 4th year PB.

After this year, you should be promoted in 2021. I also made a mistake before. Was promoted after the 3 years were up. Have faith and stay strong.

When I was promoted after the 3 years, my grades were just consistent C.

So sorry to hear about this. Usually it will take around 3 years to "get over" the C- grade, which means you won't be promoted for the next 3 years

You can discuss with your RO about the possibility of you getting promoted after this year. By next year if still no promotion, I think it is time to apply for transfer.

All the best!

What does it mean to have the grade "C"? Does it mean that your work is just average in comparison to the officers in the same grade as yours?

I am asking as I have been given many responsibilities last year (presenting at international conference, participating in partnership research with other institutions, etc) and frankly, I was expecting a better grade - at least a C+ because during the previous years when I was doing less, I was also given a C. This is also not my promotion year - have not had any promotion since 2 years ago.

It is definitely possible to score a good grade after promotion but it is also rare.

2017 - promoted to GEO 3 (A)
2018 - B
2019 - promoted to GEO 4 (A)
2020 - C

i guess my performance was average last year.

Yes essentially you are pitted against officers in the same grade. But you, together with the other officers in the same grade, are also matched against the expectations in that grade. E.g. the expectations of a GEO1 could just be to show effort in classroom management and effect change in the classroom. But that of a GEO 4, even if you have excellent classroom management skills, you are also supposed to effect change maybe at a cluster level, action research etc. And that will be the norm that is expected. So there can be instances where all the GEO4s in your school get C because nobody rose above the expectations. This is also why most people GEO5 and above rarely get A anymore. But in that sense, their pay is also high enough such that a C quantum also is quite substantial

C is a good grade, but in a more layman term it means that you are an average performer. What is your sub-grade? What was communicated to you by your RO during year end review? It could be you are geo 4/5, which means that your KRA is more demanding. So once off events like presenting at national conference etc might not be impactful enough. Are you getting the same quantum? Getting a C this year with additional responsibilities might push you higher durig ranking, but might not be good enough to warrant a C+. It depends on how many people there are in your sub grade, particularly KPs, who will most likely outperform you.

Is your subgrade very high?

Hey! Don't be too demoralised! I've been a Geo 1 before... Understood what kind of pay and workload you are taking... But if possible, try to upgrade yourself.... Even though they say its only for ur own PD. Let's jiayou together! I've gotten a B before... So it's possible!

Hi, I guess they think that others in the same sub grade are doing better? If not it could be due to my promotion year! I have done quite a bit... In terms of internal work and external org. I have also won an international prestigious award for the school. Its okay, let us just work towards a better grade next year!

To share some insights, started as Geo 2 officer.

Year 1 C
Year 2 Promoted to Geo 3 (D)
Year 3 C
Year 4 C
Year 5 C
Year 6 Promoted to Geo 4 (C)

I did something wrong in year 2. To be honest, it all depends on your school. So the C-, D meant no promotion for next 3 years, it's true.
