Hi I'm a total newbie here - I got a first in law, but I realise my passion is in teaching so I'm planning to leave practice. Do you think I'll have a high chance to teach say English or GP? How is the career path like and is there a demand?

No official working hours. It all depends on your duty and situation. If you have nothing after official curriculum time, no one will stop you from leaving. However, most Teachers usually have remedial, consultations, CCA or other meetings. Also, it doesn’t mean that work ends when you leave school. Usually, Teachers bring work home to mark or prepare for lessons. Primary/Sec schools usually will be locked up by 7pm. JC - 9-10pm.

Language teachers especially EL are really in great shortage island wide.. The marking for EL is really...

There are teachers who are totally burnt out and left the service... If you get a first in law, you may want to join poly and be a lecturer.. Better work life balance..

Well said, teaching is not for everyone and anyone... I have seen my fair share of teachers who resigned after their bonds...

If you think teaching is easy, you are obviously mistaken.

Cos I am civil servant myself. For private sector, the retrenchment fear is real.. I am being realistic.. With such bad economy, if government was to made the salary revision for teachers...

I dun know what the public will think. These days, parents are not easy to handle..

He will not be re-hired as a teacher, as such dismissal is irreversible as it is considered against public interest. So yes, if you think about it, vengeful students have the power to singlehandedly destroy a teacher's career. Just like how a person can singlehandedly destroy his manager/supervisor's career. Just accuse your superior of sexual misconduct, settled. Even if he is cleared, the story and cirumstances of the case and investigation will smear his name forever (especially in the internet age). This is how it works in Singapore.

However, there are no guidelines prohibiting him from re-entering the education service as a non-teaching officer e.g. HQ officer or academy officer.

Thank you.
No, there is no "default C". The problem is the rankings need to be fitted on a curve. So there needs to be "enough people getting C". That's why for freshly promoted officers who are good, but are not super duper outstanding in the year after their promotion, we let them fill the quota for average performers.

However, there are people who continue to shine so brightly and outstandingly and they do get better performance grades regardless of when they were last promoted. What I've seen is.. the most common kind are high performing BTs (regardless of scholar status) who work very hard and smart; they contribute at a very high level as a freshly promoted GEO3 and can really outshine the more lao jiao GEO3s and consequently get C+ and B even in the year they get their GEO3.
