Private school, international school, adult education, tuition, childcare centre.
1 billion dollar industry just for tuition sector alone. There are plenty of teaching related jobs out there. MOE is not the only education provider.

Yes, so many opportunities to get a fulfilling career in all the above. Childcare maybe not so lucrative, unless it's one of those big international brands.
You can also go into edu consultancy, especially if the company rides on MOE's latest fads to win contracts, like doing Ed Tech, coding, tech infrastructure (for schools), support ALPs, etc.

I guess many want the job stability that comes with staying as a civil servant aka teacher in a local school

the relationship in these places are transactional . it’s all abt the grades and nothing else, that’s not what education is about

That's what you think. Holistic development is not the sole monopoly of MOE. Plenty of tuition centres and private schools have non-academic focuses as well.

Haha either a sign of a very passionate teacher wanting to do more to impact students or a newbie who thinks moving up will earn him or her more. Becoming a KP will only earn you more at your 40s onwards..marginally. But how much more work correspondingly? By then if u feel tired then too bad Liao..step down get pay cut..then slog all those years to get the marginally higher pay just for fun..best to think far and see if doing a KP job is really what u want

It is indeed more stable compared to the private sector. However if compared to other public service sectors, stability in teaching is less predictable.
This is largely due to the sensitive nature of being a teacher and the great number and variety of stakeholders involved for a teacher's job. Parents, students, your own colleagues and superiors, external vendors, even the public as a whole.
Parents can make complaints and stall your progression for years.
Colleagues and superiors can dig up something intangible and use it against you during ranking.
Students can abuse their underage position and make accusations against you.

Even the public can rant and complain about teachers' "short working hours" and "high pay".

Yeah. It's not the iron rice bowl that people perceived it to be.
Yes, it's not easy to sack teachers, but management can do many things to force officers to resign. Just impose ridiculous workloads, assign the most challenging classes, and fault them during appraisal for not meeting expectations and give adverse grades and place under performance reviews
