Even if you want to transfer out of your current school, you will get better chances to transfer to a school where the working environment is better (such schools have very few openings because teachers don’t want to leave).
When it comes to promotion, bosses are very important. A colleague spent 7 years at GEO 3 in the previous school. He was quite active in presenting/participating in national conferences and events. Our school asked him to join, and offered him a KP position once there was an opening. He was promoted to GEO 4 in the year when he became acting and GEO 5 after another 2 years. We shared the same RO. I knew his CEP was raised significantly higher to expedite his promotion.

so teachers shouid go around profiling themselves instead of spending time with students to the greatest extent possible to develop them?

Come on, it is not about profiling or going out of your way to boast or seek attention. During your time in the classroom, by all means spend all the time focusing on delivering a good lesson and developing a good relationship with your students. But not all your time in school is spent in the classroom right? During those time when you are in the office, spend time getting to know your colleagues - you will be surprised how just smiling and spending a few seconds greeting others can make a difference. Listen and find out who needs help then volunteer to help instead of waiting for others to ask. Listen and ask others about their interests. If you think being a teacher is just going to school and spending time with your students only, you are wrong. There are many aspects of the job that would require you to need assistance and support from your colleagues. Offer help proactively and when you require support, it will be given to you willingly.

You spend your whole day working independently inside the classroom? You never work in teams to plan SOWs, craft T&L resources, run CCAs and organise school events?
You don't have to spend time socialising with your colleagues. But you can use the time that you interact with them to build good rapport and good working relationships so that people view you positively as a colleague and fellow teacher.

Or in 2025
Or in 2026
Or in 2027.
Get it? Cut your losses and get out before your market value drops to rock bottom

Try to transfer to another school. I was stagnant in my prev school for many years then transferred to another school last year. Finally got my promotion this year.

EO to AED
Hello! Just wanted to ask if it’s possible to make the switch from EO to AED? (I’m thinking of becoming a SEN Officer.) What are some possible routes to take / any tips on making the switch? Thank you in advance for your advice!
