The pace of change is getting faster and faster now, and you need to be up to date with the latest curricular developments for your subject(s) in order to command the highest fees as a tutor and to actually produce results.

That, or your spouse/SO/best friend is an MOE teacher and you just get updates from them. Haha

QUOTE=Unregistered;239523]Anyone has been nominated and gone for overseas courses/workshops/seminars for a few weeks before? Probably like a regional or international event to exchange knowledge and share ideas etc.

After returning, some form of report or presentation is expected at the school or cluster level.

I'm curious as to whether going for such events boosts your progression in any way.

Thank you![/QUOTE]

School>> cluster >> national >> international

Super high profile.

Asked someone who has done this before. Boosted performance grade for that year to a B, but the follow-up work from that at the school or cluster level is enormous. Need to link up with AST often as well.

This person I know has been stuck and is still stuck at GEO3 now for 7 years or so. So I doubt just this course and its follow-up work will help with progression. Will only help with getting a B grade for that particular year perhaps.

Not sure if this is really worth it.

Need to consistently hit the other KRAs for higher subgrades in other areas as well. One instance of something will receive one instance of recognition (in that person's case, one B grade, that's it). To get continuous recognition and to be seen as having higher potential, the higher level of achievement must be on a day-to-day and year-on-year basis.

Other areas refer to usually other non-teaching roles right? Like achievements in CCAs, or events for committee work etc etc?

Is this really worthwhile just for a B grade? Sigh

In the context of the previous reply (which was about international event involvement), "other areas" refers to everything else including T&L/curricular and student devt work.

To work at a level higher than GEO3, your T&L influence needs to be beyond own classes and extend to the cohort or whole school levels. For instance you may review/revamp T&L resources in preparation for new syllabus rollout, or Full SBB. You may carry out student devt work beyond your own form class, for example by coordinating aspects of Prefect/Student Council work, or being in Discipline comm, or being one of the Specialised CCE Teachers in your school. You may contribute to PD of others in a way that is expected of GEO4/5 teachers, for example by being a Cooperating Teacher for an NIE trainee or by mentoring a teaching intern. There's a lot of work that is directly related to a teacher's core job that can demonstrate so-called 'potential to work at a higher level', without even going into special events and functional work.

HR reference

Hi everyone!

If we apply to another stat board/ministry for a new post while currently teaching, will the stat board/ministry contact MOE HR to ask for our details such as performance grade?

Will our current school know somehow?
