What qualities and attributes do leaders and ROs look out for in new teachers?

Be grateful that you don’t have CCA and form teacher duties - not a luxury that many schools give. Use this period to focus on T&L and to build TSR efficiently and effectively. Also think about how to navigate around the school, i.e which colleagues and KPs you can rely on and who you can connect with. Support system is crucial to survive in the long-term and make sure you can continue to find joy in your work. There will also be some jaded teachers. Don’t avoid them altogether but do regulate the amount of time spent with them as otherwise their negative energy can feed into you easily.

Use the Pareto’s principle to be strategic about what’s important and what’s not because our time and energy is always limited but we are in a profession where there is always something you can do more of or better. Learn to also figure out when are the peak periods and when you can recharge a bit.

All the best!

Take with a pinch of salt from some anonymous person giving you a single liner explanation on why MX is better than GEO.

A direct comparison is difficult because it depends on how long you intend to stay in the job, what is your likely career progression (e.g. taking up middle management or higher), as well as your perception of leave benefits, etc.

Bear in mind that salary aside, both MX and teachers have different performance bonus structure. Most teachers cap at GEO5, and most MXs at 11 or 11A, with the latter having a slightly better payscale. The average age to reach this sub grade may differ.

EOs have restricted windows to "take leave" but get "more" leave. EOs also have a CONNECT plan that adds $170k more over your career, an annual SEP of $500.

Having said that, some EOs end up in HQ and can have flexible leave taking arrangement instead of only being able to take during school holidays.

I would think specialised schemes (e.g. MCI has IO) would "pay better" (not looking simply at salary numbers) than the generic MX scheme, considering that they probably have reasons in each ministry to do so, due to differences in the remuneration and expectations of the job.

Hi everyone, what's the pay range for a HOD?

Unregistered 16-03-2021 10:20 PM

Bt coming!!

Hi all, I have just completed my practicum in term 1, and starting term 2 onwards, I'm a BT. Abit information about myself, I'll be taking classes range from sec 1-4, with one CCA and one form class.

After understanding the EMPS and CEP of MOE, I would like to seek for some advices from you all, how could I do better or is there anything I should be aware of?

seems teachers even as HODs/SHs earn really little.
