HQ or school? Years of service? Current subgrade, and how many years in current subgrade? Current appointment/designation? What have you shared with your RO/anything interesting shared with you by your RO during your recent work reviews?

How did you know your cep is raised?

Think there are many variables that we (or at least, I) are not privy to and it's hard to even give an estimate. My own feeling is that - it seems a lot harder today than it used to be. Feel that GEO3 -> GEO4 (or 1A1 -> 1A2) could be done pretty quickly in the past.

But recently, I've seen consistent A/B-graders (still at junior grades) not getting promoted for awhile, even the year after raising of CEP. So it doesn't need to be the following year.

Out of curiosity, how rare is an A?

Probably less than 10%.

A/B - only the top 35% in the school will get it.
C+ - 36% to 50%
C - 51% to 96%

The remaining 3% will get C-/D/F.

How long did it take for some of you guys to get promoted from GEO3 to 4? Seems like 2.5 years is the norm for an above average performer. Have several colleagues who were promoted around then~

A rule of thumb - To get an A, you need to perform 3 grades higher than your substantive grade. (e.g GEO 3 doing HOD job (SEO1/2)

Oct XX cohort promotion geo2 to 3, Apr XX+2 geo3 to 4. So yes, 2.5 years.

Quite a number of batchmates got theirs in 2.5 to 3.5 years. Not all of them had one or more B grades, neither are all of them scholars. It is the norm in a nurturing school that believes in giving you opportunities to be pushed.

But there are also those who are not in nurturing environments and/or with ROs who throw them under the bus .. and are still waiting.. and waiting..

If a GEO3 does a HOD's job well, they certainly are in the running for an A, but there is really no 'rule of thumb' for As.. it depends on how competitive the school's staff are.

I've seen non-KP colleagues who never dabbled in much management work at all getting A because of excellent work on some high-key projects (things like new CCA establishment, major school milestone events with VVIPs attending, coaching fellow teachers to support a major syllabus revision, etc.). These are not necessarily the role of HODs.

If you read the KRAs for GEO3 especially, the 'A' column doesn't really expect the officer to be a high calibre middle manager - only a good experienced teacher (perhaps on par with his/her super lao jiao GEO5 colleagues).
