1) If I successfully passed the interview and start on a contract teaching scheme, what is the salary figure that I will be expecting?
2) What GEO rank might I be offered given my work and tuition experience?
Thanks.

Likely you need to take a pay cut. It is common for mid career switchers coming into moe to get a lower pay. Probably only recognise your work experience, not so for private tuition

.

I have seen faster. Promoted to GEO4 this April. Appointed officially now

The requirement is just GEO4 at time of appointment (and minimum CEP lah). So if school has been grooming and monitoring the officer's progress, can push for interview as soon as promotion kicks in.

From what I can tell, he is quite overworked and is looking for a deputy to assist. For context, I was just promoted to GEO3 this year. Anyone who was in a similar position? Thank you!

I find this a bit strange. Basically, joining KP Ship is entirely up to SLs. HODs can recommend but at the end of the day, it is SL's decision. Having said that.. you mentioned that you just got promoted to GEO3, it means, you will definitely take some time to go to GEO4 in this current climate.. let's say 3 years (including covering role).. I dont think anyone can promise you that LH position will be reserved for you.. what is heartening is that with your RO saying that he is grooming you, it shows that he has a good opinion of your performance. . Do continue to work hard.. if all things works out well.. then good for you. but do be mentally prepared . 2-3 years.. many things can change..

Recurring topic here but I just need to get it out...

Just feeling the yearly jadedness because ranking is near and promotion is just over and got passed over again.

I know the exact reasons.
- I did not explicitly ask to be groomed.
- I am less caring of my own branding.

I think the system we grew up in encouraged us to think that as long as we do our work well, we get rewarded fairly.

The real world is more about luck, networking and presenting oneself as well.

Questions during Cluster Interview

1. Why do want to serve as an AYH?
2. What is one thing you would focus on as an AYH?
3. What is one competency you have worked on since taking up the acting AYH role?
4. What are some of the challenges you face?
5. How would you prepare your students when they return from HBL?

As for the answers, you should be able to link the school strat plan / MOE objectives with your points. Don't give too much on the operations, display your vision and ability to think with a broader perspective and lastly, be positive!

Hi guys, i am going for cluster interview at the end of the month for HOD post. Can I find out what are some other questions that u have encountered? Thanks

Hai actually i feel alot back stabbing and politics. Due to ranking and "fame". Many just want to wayang and not for teaching.

Education is like least in teachers heart i feel......
Always thinking if i should quit when I am just officially in MOE

Please don’t lose heart. We definitely cannot expect everyone to be in education because they care. However, we can choose not to be like them. If you are young in service, I would advise you to pace yourself. No point doing things that you think is a mere “wayang”. There are definitely ROs who appreciate teachers who cares for the students. If you put students at the centre of your work, you will eventually do okay. Don’t do things for the sake of doing because you will not be able to sustain in service long.

I’m afraid the system you grew up in is unreal. You cannot penalise ppl for their ability to network and present themselves well. Instead of complaining abt the system, why not work on improving yourself so that you are able to fit in the “real” world? If you do not care abt your “branding”, how would you expect others to notice you or how would others even consider promoting you? If you appear to be nonchalant abt yourself, most likely the management would assume that there is no point in promoting this staff as he/she also does not appear to care abt it.
