Not to discourage young teachers but you really need to think how you gonna survive with the low pay scale and slower promotion. I have young colleagues who earn GEO2 pay for 5 years. Want to enjoy holiday, family planning also don’t dare to do so.
You call HR they just tell you generic stuff one, so don’t waste time and effort to make the call.

GEO2 (Trained): 2950-5200
Someone earning 3k to 4k don't dare go on holiday? Its not enough to go Thailand, Vietnam or Taiwan?

Let’s not judge people on their spending habits or life goals. To be honest, 3k to 4K nowadays, want to go holiday, planning for wedding, plan to have kids, it’s not easy.
If just do one thing, I think it’s ok. But to do many major life events is a bit hard.

OP here. GEO2 for 5 years is really sad… just so unfortunate that now cohort promotion is no longer a thing. Not sure if it is also because I’m not exactly at ceiling yet (slightly less than 5k) so there’s no promotion.

Yes, it’s called partial increment. So that it can delay a few more years of increment before they promote you and you still feel good that you had an increment.

BT that didn’t get cohort promoted
Well, without cohort promotion, they successfully destroyed my passion in teaching. I mean I agree that teaching is a calling, but without being recognised, passion is not going to last long.
Looking at the Genz; Looking at the salary, they just don’t match….. Especially when the school you are teaching is a school that so many discipline cases are happening on a daily basis.
It’s not 1st April yet, so I don’t know if I am promoted. Tbh, I will feel quite discouraged if I’m not being promoted.

Usually such teachers are the ones who teach better than anyone else. they are ranked low because they just want to teach, and pushes all the funny events or admin aside. When you dun need to worry about money, you do what you deem fit in the system to help students.
Of course, this is only part of the group of the low cep people, i cant say all of them are like that. Personally, i know a few such teachers and i respect that choice.

Hi there, anyone can provide insights for this?
I am glad to see that MOE has been increasing the starting pay for new hires in order to attract people into this profession. However, I have been discussing with the new teachers in my school, and it is really demoralising to see that their pay can almost match teachers who are in service much longer.
For example,
My GEO2 colleague is currently drawing 5k pay in his 2nd year of teaching. His pay can easily be close to mine after being promoted to GEO3 this year.
I am currently in my 7th year of teaching, promoted to SH, GEO5 and my pay is only 6.3k.
It just feels unfair to be loaded with so much work, while newer colleagues are drawing pay that can easily match existing teachers. I am not sure why the HR is not reviewing the pay scheme for the existing teachers, seems like a gap in the system.

Hi. That’s how things are unfortunately. A couple of reasons for this. If you understand right, starting pay of teachers are correlated with economy of Singapore at the year of you join teaching. 7 years ago, it’s pre covid, standard of living is considered lower, hence lower starting pay. 2 years ago, economy recovered from COVID and also standard of living is higher, hence the starting pay also higher.
Those teachers who joined teaching during COVID had it worse, some who are in geo 3 didn’t even hit 5k. If u not happy, think of colleagues who joined during covid. Maybe that will console u.
