Likely due to the $102,000 ceiling for CPF? At this juncture, there's a good chance that the existing salary (inc. bonuses) might have hit that.

Means from your normal salary and bonuses, you have already made & received compulsory CPF contributions for the first $102k.

Beyond $102k per annum, any more salary payments are no longer subject to compulsory CPF contributions and you just get paid the full amount in cash. CPF calls this the "annual salary ceiling".

Default 2025 sec 1 admission

s://.zaobao.com.sg/news/singapore/story20241221-5630466

The number of candidates for Baby Dragon is increasing, and the competition is more fierce. The admission threshold of many schools has been slightly raised this year.

This year, there are more "Dragon Babies" who take the primary school entrance examination than the previous one, which may more or less increase the competition for choosing a school. Many schools have higher admission thresholds this year than last year, and most of the cut-off points have been lowered by one point.

Since 2021, the primary school entrance examination has changed to the achievement level (AL) to evaluate students' learning performance. The score level of each subject of candidates is between AL1 and AL8, and AL1 is the best. The total score of the four subjects is between 4 and 32. The lower the cut-off point of school, the higher the admission threshold.

The cut-off point of the school is the grades of the last admitted student, which is not preset by the school, so parents can only refer to the cut-off points of previous years when choosing a school. After the announcement of the middle school allocation results on Wednesday (December 18), some parents reported on social media that their children could not enter the selected school, and discussed the phenomenon of lowering the cut-off points of more schools.

The students participating in the sixth grade examination this year are children born in the year of the Dragon. The number of candidates has reached 40,894, more than 2,800 more than last year's 38,088 candidates. There were 37,095 candidates in the previous year.

The reporter of Lianhe Zaobao inquired about the cut-off points of 25 schools, including several neighborhood schools in addition to schools that are generally considered popular. Among them, about three-quarters of the cut-off points are one point lower than last year, which means that the admission threshold is slightly higher. The cut-off point of Raffles Girls' Middle School was lowered from 6 points to 5 points in the previous term, and Nanyang Girls' High School and Hwa Chong Institution were lowered from 7D to 6M. 6M refers to the total score of 6 points and the excellent score in the advanced Chinese examination (Merit, abbreviated as M). Gaohua's grades are distinguished (Distinction, abbreviated as D), Excellent and Pass (abbreviated as P) according to the performance level.

The cut-off point of Raffles Institution is maintained at 6 points. The cut-off point of Dunman High School was lowered from 8M to 7M, and Chung Cheng High School (Main) was lowered from 10M to 9P. The cut-off point of Swiss Cottage Secondary School is 10 points, which is higher than the 11 points requirement of the previous one. The cut-off point of Edgefield Secondary School has also been lowered by one point to 13. According to the Lianhe Zaobao's report on the allocation results of schools last year, the cut-off points of many popular schools remained unchanged at that time.

More than 80% of students enter the top three selected schools.

In response to the United Morning Post, the Ministry of Education said that more than 80% of students entered the first three selected schools this year; more than 90% were assigned to one of the six selected schools, which is similar to that of previous years.

When students choose schools, they arrange six schools in order. When students with the same grades are fighting for the last place, the authorities will decide on other criteria, including citizenship and school selection. Citizens are given priority; the first priority is given to the choice of schools. When the students have the same conditions, they will be decided by computer lottery.

The spokesman said that about 10 per cent of students were decided by computer lottery, and the rate was comparable to that of previous years. This year's middle school allocation results are comparable to those of previous years, reflecting that students and parents will choose schools with different cut-off points according to their grades when choosing schools in the same way as in previous years.

The Ministry of Education said: "When planning the number of students, the authorities will consider the expected demand for quotas at the national and regional levels. The Ministry of Education will continue to ensure that schools have sufficient quotas to meet the needs of each student.

The son of parent Zhu Zhengliang (42 years old, software engineer) was assigned to the sixth school of his choice. In an interview, he said that their first choice was Hai Sing Catholic School, which had a cut-off of 17 points last year, and his son's grades reached this cut-off. In the first three options, they all chose the middle school with a cut-off point of 17 points, thinking that if they could not enter the first choice, they should also be able to enter the other two schools.

"Unexpectedly, the cut-off point of Hai Sing Catholic School dropped to 15 points, and my son's grades did not meet the standard. The cut-off points of the other two schools have also been reduced by one point. The cut-off score of the middle school my son will attend is also one point lower than last year. Fortunately, he can enter one of the choices, and the school is not too far from home. I saw a complaint from parents on the Internet that their children could not enter any school they chose, and eventually they had to be assigned by the Ministry of Education.

Tbh, close to a zero chance. They are cutting down on intakes and they can afford to be choosy. Most of the new hires are scholars/FCH from local Universities.

Then be specific. Jc teachers make up how many percent of the entire teacher population only? Don’t generalise all of us and put us in the same box.
