I heard that wanting to hold a leadership position in the fraternity is not encouraged. 😂 But I guess there are too many geo 5 in my school alr, so being able to head one committee or event is a big thing.

What is your current grade? 4 years in the service is enough to have you being appointed SH/LH provided that you have shown the right attitude and possess the aptitude to do so. Getting a good grade for appriasal merely justify the work that you did as compared to the other officers of the same sub grade. It might or might not reflect your ability to lead, this is especially so for geo 3 and below where main focus is on T&L.

What AFI did your RO mention to you? And what made you think that they have hinted you on going the teaching and specialist track?

If you have already sounded out to your RO, finding opportunities to speak to your P will seem ok. Instead of barging into his/her office and demand a leadership role, centred the discussion on your career progression. Make clear the department that you would like to develop in. At times, ROs might not find themselves in the position to bring up such topic, even during ranking.

1. How do you deal with colleagues who spread rumours and report unjustified things about you to your RO?

2. Will ROs give lower performance grades (since performance and progression largely depends on ROs during ranking) upon hearing these talks/rumours (without concrete evidence)?

I am asking this because as mentioned previously, ROs are ultimately still humans; some of them might still be easily swayed by others, no?

1. It is not uncommon for such things to take place within work srea. Take it as an opportunity to reflect on your interpersonal relationship with colleagues. Clarify and prove your worth and not be overly defensive.

2. If the colleagues are KPs, it might affect the discussion during ranking, which will lead to pess than expected apprasial. Is this your first/second year in service? Else, you would have seen for yoruself the grade that you have been given?

Hi all, I've read quite a bit of pages in this thread.

I am new prospective teacher. Will be starting my contract stint soon.

May I know how much a teacher can expect to earn after 5 yrs of teaching, and 10 yrs of teaching? Also, while I am doing my PGDE in NIE, does it count towards the total service year or would it only start afterwards?

I am not a grade 3 yet because I just completed my part time studies in suss. There is a time where I consulted P about my post grad options and he hinted that it would be good to go back to NIE to take up courses on Padegogy or curiculumn planning in that case. My RO have been saying I am doing well for my grade.

This might be one reason nothing's been happening - I believe you need to be at least GEO3 in order to formally take on appointment (used to be GEO1A1; I assume it has mapped to 3).

I think the weird thing is that some of us hardly cross paths with some colleagues during work. So it makes me wonder what would make a person do such things. Boost his/her own image in front of the RO?

I have heard stories where teachers (supposedly morally righteous beings) backstab one another at work. Quite shocking considering that it is the teaching profession.

Ranking in GEO2 and GEO3

I will get my default promotion in Oct soon, so this year ranking I will stay in GEO2 or GEO3?

Ranking will be based on previous year grade. If u r 2,then ur ranking will be together with 2. Until u have promoted then u will go to another ranking grade.
