1. Is yearly increment something that is confirmed every year?

2. If an officer has a promotion during a particular year (meaning monthly salary increase), there won't be anymore yearly increment for the officer for that year right?

If you have hit your salary cap for your job gradez then there would be no more increment.

Yes

Increment comes in Apr, promotion can come in Apr/Oct but the pay increment should have included the yearly increment.
Hope that helps?

I've had a few colleagues who've mentioned to me before that albeit in the same scale (e.g. GEO 2), 2 people with the same honours had different pay with the one in independent school slightly nearer to the grade ceiling.

Anyway if you're a GEO 3 now, you should know that you are hitting the ceiling and highly likely a promotion would be coming soon.
Oh I never knew about the difference in starting salary! I did not ask my batch mates though because I don't know their class of hons either...
You mean once the salary is close to the ceiling , a promotion is coming? Never knew that!

Well, not all the time also lah... I've seen people "hugging" the ceiling for quite a few years...Different school will have different set of factors...

depends on bosses.

usually those at ceiling will have priority. esp since the number of good grades is limited ( bell curve and all that) and you need 2 years of good grades to promote.

I started my career on secondment to an independent school. Starting pay was the same as peers who had the same honours class as me.

The only difference I'd observed was for those who'd resigned from MOE to join the school as direct staff - they usually received approx. +2 increments from current pay.

Of course, this is almost a decade ago now... not sure if things have changed.

But tbh, since it is a relatively new subject. No one in our generation would have taken it. So in NIE, they will definitely equip you with the pedagogical skills and the content knowledge to teach that particular subject. Just that you may have to spend some time to brush up your programming skills? haha.

Changing teaching subject is definitely possible but you have to write in soon. You can start by writing in to the PGDE admin office in NIE, explaining your case and ask for a change.
Computer Application is not a new subject. It's also known as CPA, a subject for Normal Technical students.

However, i was offered secondary school bio as my first teaching subject, and computer applications as my second teaching subject. I am completely clueless on these IT stuffs. I suspect they gave me this subject because I took one computer programming module while on exchange in Korea. -.-

Any chance they can change my teaching subject? I dont think i can pass any computer skills test if there is a proficiency test being conducted.

You will still get at end of dec, but lesser amount due to period of NPL.
(Was on NPL before, so I can verify this)
