Degree holder in Diploma scheme

Hi there, I am applying for the position of analyst in MHA and I am told by the HR there if I were selected for the job, I would be placed in the diploma scheme but my pay would be the same as that of a degree holder.

Does anyone know how is the diploma scheme different from the graduate scheme and is it advisable to accept this offer?

Thanks much!

Yep, I have a Science degree from NUS.
Does that whatever pay they offered me in the first place, there will be very little room for increment later on? Any other differences in benefits and prospects compared to the grad scheme?

I am in a dilemma now as I quite like the job scope.

There are separate career progression paths for diploma and degree holders in government sector.

Once you are placed in diploma scheme, you can only follow diploma career progression. Positions like managers, head of department, directors, etc are out of reach for you no matter how good a performer you are.

I don't have the full story but it seems unethical for the HR to try to trick you into diploma scheme when you have a recognised NUS degree. They may give you same starting pay as degree holder but you will lose out eventually.

Oh I see. Thanks for enlightening me on this!

I will be going for the last round of interview soon and I think this will give me something to think about if I were really selected for the post. I am not sure if it's possible but I think I will see how what they can offer me try to negotiate with HR if they can put me in the grad scheme instead

Thanks again!
