It depends on the bank. Some banks are more stable and easy to promote then others. Example job in Japanese bank is quite stable and 'auto-promote' every few years as long as no kok up.

So yes if you dun mind your salary peaking, BO job is good. I know BO aunties who have been in the bank for 30+ years also happy happy almost on the dot go home.

If you dun mind a sub-par career, it is much better to join the public sector. Banks experience cycles industry wide and job is much less stable. Lay offs and displacement by cheaper foreigners is common.

If you want to slack slack do brainless SOP job, there are much better and safer places than going into a bank. Many people willing to take the risk in a lousy job in banks because they want to have a shot at being transfered to a more glamorous area.

jus to add on.. if u not chionging for above average salary, den civil service might be a better option... ppl who go private either dont have the grades or they are those who are trying to have a shot at earning much more.

The max default rank for a farmer - Dy Director is slightly >10k, but I think most people will retire at 9k+. My advice is to join a low visibility stat board or support function in civil service.

Usually yes, thats why those want simple life balance and no career ambition should join public sector instead of wasting time in banks.
