Default Mid career switch?

Thanks guys. I've enjoyed reading the forum. Have always dreamt of working as a dxo since young.

Wasn't able to apply before as I didn't have a 'good local deg'. IT dip from NP and BSc IT and Biz from SUSS.

But I recently graduated from my MBA in SMU.

Am currently already in my late 30s though, specialised in Comms and drawing about 16k (12mths). Senior manager position.

Do you guys feel it's worth applying when a role opens up or just stick to pte? And what level should I be applying for?

Your reply seems genuine. If you indeed take 16k per month as a senior manager, I assure you that mindef cannot afford you. You won't receive a call.

Even a director takes around 10k max. Based on 12 months that's maybe 13k. This person at this salary has to manage maybe 4 dxo managers.

Too expensive, too much of a drain on taxpayer dollars. Perhaps if you drop to 12 they may consider.

Thanks bro. You mean there are people who post a fake question ? Yup mines genuine for sure.

Been looking at the portal on and off every 1-2 years. But more serious after I completed the MBA which satisfies the 'good local degree' requirement I hoped.

There are limited senior Comms role in mindef unfortunately but it fits my aspirations and purpose - to be in a job that gives back. Am in healthcare now.

I work in a camp. Pretty normal. It’s like Officer > DXO > WOSPEC

Yup, dxo is like a 2nd class citizen. The culture in my camp is that most DXOs address MAJ and above as Sir/Ma’am. Haha. After awhile you’ll get used to it.

Which is usually the case in private sector when you interview and try to sell yourself. Unfortunately Mindef won't see it that way and will only pay you as they see fit - X years of exp assigned a certain rank, drawing Y pay.

Usually most people moving to public sector are doing it for the reduced hours as a whole and are willing to take a haircut on the pay.
