Ask me anything
Im a new-ish DXO who started not long ago and have yet to pass my probation. Posting here because I initially prayed to get in because if the higher salary as compared to other ministries but realised I MIGHT not be a culture fit but I’m still hanging on… dont think I will quit as the market is really bad right now.
Anyways, you can ask me anything and I’ll try to answer so you dont end up like me.

quite normal. had many colleagues quit within 1-2 years as they do not like the red tapes and the 'abnormal' incessant way that 'staff work' is focused on (must be certain format, certain font size etc.) Some of them dont like to write minutes/papers and some of them dont like the culture of doing things outside of their job scopes (unlike private sector where one is focused on their primary job). The remaining ppl who stays are suckers who dont mind doing the extra work and following long and sometimes illogical processes. (I mind but what to do?)
so my advise is for those that are not resilient enough, dont like to do extra work and do not like to conform to military way of doing things, dont join. the only good thing is the 8-5 work life balance. so depends on what you want.

Do you mind sharing how many years of experience you have, the title you're holding (eg executive/manager/director) & the pay range, please? I've seen a few posts in this forum & I believe maybe the culture is also dependent on the departments & superiors (similar to NS).

Could you share the things that made you feel that you're not comfortable with the culture? Also, what is the pay range based on your years of experience? Thanks

Is rotating mandatory ah? I understand people can choose the available roles but what if one loves her or his role & wants to stay longer in the same role for a long time?

DXOs used to be able to stay in one position for life (in theory). But there is this new policy that all DXOs will need to find a new post at after 6 years. so yes, its mandatory. so, the min is 2 years before you can rotate out and the max is 6 years.
