Job Application with MOE (non-teaching position)

Hi, I have recently attended an interview with MOE for a management executive position. One week after the interview, their Hr officer contacted me on further queries regarding my current job and told me they will get back to me after getting back to their director or so.

It has since been one week after the hr officer called me up (and 2 weeks after the interview). Thus, I would like to ask for MX positions, how long do MOE usually take to inform the candidates on their results? Will MOE inform the candidate if he/she is unsuccessful?

Thanks!:)

i went for an interview there before
when i went into the interview room and explained why i was interested in the position
the whole room of interviewers went 'nonono, that position is taken already, this interview is for another position'

it gave me a very bad impression of the organization. no one told me anything, even after i showed up on the interview day.

and they were very fast with a rejection letter in this instance, I got a printed one in 2 days in my letterbox. A rejection letter, for a mistake they made. Hmph.

anyone has any idea how high is the rejection rate by moe (non-teaching)? im a 2nd upper honours student graduating soon and i wanna know like whats their criteria (other than those stated on website) for successful applications. Eg the kind of interview qns they ask or the traits they looking out for etc

ewsret agree, 14-04-2012 09:26 AM

MOE has got one of the highest rate of job applicants with only a small HR unit of about 100 officers looking after 33000 staff... they have a lot of things on their plate so don't expect MOE HR to be so fast...

If you're going for the Admin Manager job in a school, they'll look for someone who already has some work experience, is mature and stable... pass degree is ok...

For HQ jobs, they have many eager beaver fresh grads armed with honours this and honours that... again, depend on the job... certain Divisions love scholars and young officers as they have more energy and intellect to undertake gruelling 3-5 hours meetings, stay back lack to prepare things for the bosses, etc... you'd have a tough time if you go to MOE with so-so conversational and writing skills.

lmaohaha 14-04-2012 09:35 AM

any idea can a fresh grad w/o working exp be a admin manager?

I only said that MOE prefers those with some work experience... you can always try.

Quite common, all the manager titles in civil service are fake anyway.

for Admin Manager job, they'll probably ask why a young fresh grad like yourself want to do a desk-bound job in a school with little prospect of moving up

Unregistered 15-04-2012 10:17 AM

MOE seems to be massive hiring Admin Mgrs every month, any idea is it because the turnover is very high?
How are Admin Mgrs view in school? Are they considered low-level jobs in the school? E.g. like a highly paid clerk doing dirty work and not respected by teaching staffs?
Also, the salary range published in their website seems a little low for experienced hires... Any idea what is the highest they would offer for an accountant with 15 yrs experience who is thinking of moving into civil svc from pte sector?
Thanks!

i rly have no idea abt the job prospects. im still deciding btw moe hq and school administrator. from my pov, i tink hq is a scholar grooming place, full of ppl wif gd honours, hard to shine and rise. in schools, hardly so? nid some advice on the difference in the 2 in terms of pay and prospects.

Helping a friend to ask - would someone majoring in Chinese be better off doing the AM role instead of going via the academic route in terms of pay/career advancement? He has very little passion in teaching though.

Are you serious? Admin manager in MOE is equal to Admin Executive / Officer in pte sector. Why would accountant with 15 yrs apply for this job? Of course cannot match ur pay lah!

I got a verbal offer for the post of admin mgr. Fresh grad, local U, no work exp. Seems like they are desperate. They usually get back to you within 1/2 weeks.

there are over 350 schools in Singapore... turnover is at 5-7% on average... so there'll always be AM post available... just make sure you don't get chewed by the more experienced and senior (in terms of age) support officers :)

I would like to know, too, as I am a non-local grad as well. Tried applying for Admin Mgr but received no response.

no lar, not the pay. just hope to work at a location near where i stay w/o having to spend long travelling time to and fro work. live near bv, so can cut down on travelling time, no need take mrt if i get to work at moe hq.

Unregistered 19-04-2012 12:15 PM

There's only one interview for admin mgr, there'll be 2 VP and a HR mgr interviewing you.
Dont see much prospects or career development opportunities for this role.

MOE HQ has more red tape than any other Ministries... School environment is more family like but depend on Principal and VP...
