I m in private sector and like what someone has mentioned, you are paid according to your responsibilities and ability to perform. Unlike public sector, private companies have no obligations to provide jobs for uni grads so they are free to pay poly diploma holders whatever they feel they are worth.

******** for what. Nothing to boast about, $6k per month is low income group. I still take public transport and live in hdb flat in ulu part of sg.

But what are the chances of a diploma holder who have just have 1 year experience to earn 6K a month??!!
You don't think it sounds a little fishy?
there are plenty of degree holder or even master degree holders with 5 years experience that barely even touch 5k salary...

If pay for performance job, 6k is so so, higher than average but not fantastic.

I don't know what kind of performance you expecting from a 23 year old fresh out of polytechnic... And what job that will pay him 6k man.. Sounds like daydreaming to me..

My son, Yr4 IP, wanted to go the Engineering way. I am worried for his future.

I mentioned one year relevant experience. I am 32 yrs old, before this job I was doing other non related jobs.

Up to you to believe or not, $6k is little so there is nothing to boast about. I still take public transport and live in ulu part of Singapore. The feeder bus takes 20 minutes to reach MRT. Before the distance based fares, I even walk home from MRT to save 40cents. I try to scrimp and save by buying only groceries on discount and NTUC housebrand, and no holidays for years already. Because I consider myself low income group. I hope to jump ship and get $1k more per month by end of this year.

Maybe he have a fetish for working with uneducated FT engineers?

Uneducated people from third world countries are treated as foreign talent and employed as engineers. Uniquely Singapore.

There are so many jobs out there that is paid based on billing & nothing to do with age & exp. You need to get out of that office 8 to 5 basic pay mentality.

Can always look for jobs that pay a commission.

Such as being a business loans broker.
