Yup.. Thatz life in Singapore... But My dear friend.. You've got the priority of things wrong already lah.. You should faster upgrade yourself and get a private degree.. only then with a more decent income then you dream about buying HDB... How do you expect to pay HDB loan every month with your 2k salary?? Somemore if still need to support your wife and kids?? Even if you don't need to eat properly.. they need to live a decent live also mah... My advise is better make sure you earn a decent income before you even dream of taking up a long term loan....

Hopefully my reply didnt come late

If u can bite the retail hour bullet, i suggest move on to retail
Only retail can offer u better salary

Let me quote an eg. sometime last year i intro a personal friend of my in his late 30s without any retail experience to start off as Sales Supervisor for a local MNC retailer
His starting salary is basic 2k exclude bonus aws allowance
Retailer are willing to give anyone opportunity if one is willing to learn

Another eg.
I'm also a N level bo ta chey chao ah beng
After NS i start off as a sales assistant, store supervisor, store manager, key account executive, category manager etc
Certain point of time i was shortlist by ex. company as Area Manager in Guangzhou
But i couldnt speak cantonese hence i'm not shortlist after interview at Shenzhen

Now in my mid 30's i draw basic 5k exclude bonus aws allowance etc
Of course I work my way hard accept bashing, learn and move

Try now if u are still young dont waste your time

Is that alot? I consider myself underpaid and hope to move to an asst manager role with less responsibilities.

I think our engineers are severely underpaid for the work they are doing.

For most jobs, pay should tie to the job scope and responsibilities. If someone with diploma can do the job, then he deserves the higher pay. This is more applicable to private sector.
