when i heard i also quite shocked... but i do acknowledge this is not the industry norm for back office..
at my internship at backoffice a fews ago, some staff with SIM degrees were barely making 3k/mth...
GIC pays one of the best compensation packages out there to compete with the best BBs...
u believe or not is up to u... but not anyone can join GIC anyway...

Great discussion guys. My input: Im working in a local bank, am currently associate rank n drawing only 3k plus. I'm quite surprised quite a number of ppl have confirmed that AVPs draw btw 7-9k. (excluding commission)
N I can confirm that if one is in front office in local bank, u can take just 3-4 yrs to reach AVP. But there are also ppl who work btw 5-8 yrs and are still AVPs. In other words, I think there is quite a big range btw "junior" n "senior" AVPs. Also, a new management associate is an analyst rank (below me) but starting salary is higher than me! So there is overlap in pay btw ranks as well I suspect.

I believe the GIC story. Couple of yrs back, GIC HR came to my uni NUS n told us that the starting salary for a trainee officer is abt 4+k. After the trainee period will increase to 5k+. If u r trained to be a fund manager will make btw 20k n above after that depending on how gd u r, in his own words. So for a backoffice guy making 6k at GIC, I'm not surprised. The surprising part is....he has no honours???!! They typically take 1st class hons guys...

its back office not front, so the criteria is not so strict... my fren say that office also got accountants who leave accountancy to join GIC backoffice...

well, you better believe it, cos no local bank pays more than $10k for AVP for base... no matter what area you are in (even if u were AVP in investment banking)...

Just curious do you have access to HR info for all 3 local banks? I ask this because other than that I don't see how you can conclude for sure that no avp gets paid above 10k. It's not like all the avp just start shouting their salary on the street right?
For me I don't know how local bank pay, but 10k for avp sounds reasonable. I know a few friends in European banks who reached 10k even as associates, so will be very surprised if avp in local banks pay less than that.

Hi all,
I am keen to join the Membership Supervision Department of SGX. I have about 7 years of compliance experience in stock broking houses and 2 years of external audit experience.
With my background, what position should i apply for and how much salary should i be getting at SGX?
Thanks !!
