I am aware FAANG pay is really good.
But do bank paid badly? And what if it is a work life balance with basic annual salary of more than 220k and paid annual leave more than 21 days. I believe it is considered quite decent life for living in SG.

It's not about the pay or the leaves... but the actual tech work and challenges.
I work as a SWE at a bank too and 90% of my time is just cleaning up dogshit code written by off-shore retards who were mass-hired and have no idea how to use any of the popular tech stacks like Angular, React, Java Spring boot etc so they just pile crap on top of crap.
There's no proper standards at all and why should they have any anyway, if it works it works and banks are highly hierarchical... You get any fresh talent whose a junior or mid level suggesting reasonable tech debts to clear and the upper management will go
"nah let's build new features!" yeah great! let's build on top of an already unstable crap.

I’m 34 this year (born 1990) who regrets my education pathway.
If I could go back 3 years and be 31 in your shoes, I will advise you to study hard.

exactly! if you are a SWE and working in a bank, you're just wasting your time there and shows how useless and incapable are you to work at anywhere else that requires real skills

Your statement is somewhat truth.
The old guard Senior Management care about “output”, in the name of new feature or product.
Nowadays, in the bank, real technical people started to get hired as Senior Management, and things finally is getting better as they are focusing more on stability, standardization and security as well.
Nowadays, being SWE, in a mid or senior level is not just simply doing coding or knowing implementing application design pattern.
With the advancement in tech, you need to have quite wide range of knowledge around middleware and infrastructure as well.

Why are you being salty with ppl working as SWE in a bank?
I pity the people around you, as you seems to always look down on ppl.
You “may” have high IQ, but you have low EQ.
All the best to your life. Cheers!
