Anyone know how is PwC risk assurance? Does it offer a good career progression? Thanks!

Is it even possible to fail an interview for big 4 audit? I see some of my local uni friends with accountancy degrees join mid tier firms instead of big 4, is it they buay kan or just can't cut it at interviews?

From the previous replies it seems like even 3rd class honors, private uni, history degree can get in.
How bad could their resumes have been? They draw hentai on the cover page and submit ah?

As someone that graduated from one of the local uni ( Nus, Ntu & Smu), i have to agree that the big 4s have no standard anymore. In the first 2 years of audit, everyone is able to do the mindless work. However, once you give the private degree associates real work, they make a mess of it and drag everyone else down.
My advice to local U undergrads, don't fall for the "prestige" of the big 4. Think about it, if people from SIM or non-accounting students can get in, is it even prestigious anymore? Also, the exit opps isn't magical once you work in the big 4. Literally 1000s of auditors are trying to leave, nothing will help you stand out. The only reason i managed to snag a good job in industry is the fact that i had a first class from a local uni. P.s. don't listen to seniors that tell you your grades don't matter after your first job, it does.

This is only in the big 4. Look at other MNCs, for banks that they in fresh grad, you need to have good grades + softskills + technicals. For other big companies they take in only a handful as well. In big 4, because of the high turn over they have to take in the bottom barrel graduates. Look the the skill gap, you have person A (Raffles straight As + Nus good honours) then you have B ( lousy jc B/Cs and from Sim). If you give the same work ofc A does it better what. Then A set the standard make everyone else look beh kan. In other MNCs if you beh kan got no one to compare it to.
Only sad part is less and less capable people joining audit. Now is all sim/suss/sit they ask some of dumbest questions you can imagine. Btw my experience is from yellow firm. Heard from my ex schoolmates pwc and kpmg are still able to attract local u grads
