the reality is this: people keep going to big 4 -> resulting in annual GES becoming like ****, easily bottom 20% local uni's GES -> JC students see the GES, who the heck will even wan to to join accountancy -> quality of acc undergraduates getting lower and ACC becoming a dumping ground course

This is already happening on the ground, with accountancy courses in NTU being so lowly ranked that even 70 pointers can go in.

For poly of course diff story cos they follow through from uni and many of them were brainwashed in poly to join big 4 anyway.

But nobody in the right mind from JC would wanna join accountancy anymore and the prestive of the profession is going to the dumps.

Errr I know someone from my sch who wasn't able to join big 4 after graduation! His results were quite stellar, first class if I'm not mistaken. At the bare minimum a 2:1

Accountancy with near first-class honours will definitely be able to get into Big4 audit. Seriously, just do one of your internship in Big4 assurance and you will get the offer.

It was many years ago. Even at that time, the interviewers are trying to promote Big4 than doing an actual interview. Not that I am complaining, since I hate interviews.

Does he have very bad EQ and presentation skills, with zero internship experience? It takes immense effort to not be able to join Big 4 assurance if you are second upper and above.

What do you mean negotiate? Doesn’t B4 have fixed predetermined salary bands?

At most you can nego within the band but it’s really narrow.

This is just my personal observation and I have no statistic or evidence to back this up. It’s really subjective anyway - From speaking with friends, B4 doesn’t seem as attractive or appealing a starting choice for a career in 2021 as compared to 2013.

Is this because of the rise of other sectors such as Tech, or are Banks management associate programmes higher in remuneration, or just the idea that you need to put in hard work in earlier years to learn the ropes not desirable to fresh graduates?

Or perhaps the introduction of the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification, as compared to the previous 5 days Pre-Admission Course to become a Chartered Accountant also a factor?

But I think the NTU Accountancy 2021 top scorer went to EY according to LinkedIn which may or may not be a reliable source.
