Those who quit big 4 typically go into these FP&A, tax, budgeting or business analyst roles. Accounting ones are where your non-big 4 folk usually end up.

I quited big 4 after 2years+ of grinding. Was previously working over 75hrs/week
I managed to join my client office (MNC) doing FP&A.
Got a 30%+ pay increase considering annual package.
Better work life balance and pay.

No need partner level, once you reach SM(abt avg 8 Years), your WLB improves tremendously as you just delegate your work liao. A SM command min basic 10k/mth salary+.
Personally, i left Big 4 after making Mgr (5 yrs+). I know a lot of my SMs are really medicore but they just managed to rise to that rank by merely staying on where most leaves.

If joining commercial FP&A straight, will the progression be slower as compared to joining after working for 3+ years in Big 4 audit?

Your knowledge and exposure will be limited, likely your career trajectory will be capped.
