Get real la. Most auditors are in Big 4 because they can't get other better options like MNCs, Ministry, MAS or FIs.
Audit is a sh*tty job but someone has to do it. This is one instance where the pay is actually commensurate with the value of the service provided.
All this talk about boomers perpetuating lack of WLB culture is irrelevant if they were good enough to have better options than audit in the first place.
The issue really isn't about Big 4 culture, but the shi*ty nature of the line. Audit is routine and low margin, lower value chain service requiring lots of grunt hours.
If Big 4 firms allow their staff to work lighter hours, they have to reduce the number of engagements = less profit and fewer hires/less pay. If they pay more, they will need to hire fewer (cos margins alr so low) and squeeze existing staff.
You can go to a small or mid tier firm and work family friendlier hours than Big 4, but you get paid accordingly lesser lor.
This is a structural problem of the industry.
