No parallels or relevance with Singapore, so no comment.
All Big 4s are run like franchises globally with little in common except branding and some IT services. They're merely pretending to be one unified 'global' firm.
It's like comparing working conditions of a Singapore McDonalds worker vs a New Delhi McDonalds worker.

It's a tragic case but I don’t think the work culture will change in the Big 4. Seems like EY has received the most news coverage like the Sydney incident and the leaked emails from Hong Kong

I see… so this is where it all started. Hence the fixation on 2013.
But still, I think it’s time you move on with your lives. 11 years already. I was hung up on my ex for 3 years, but even I managed to move on eventually.

This is new to me - are the firms considered MNCs then?

No. They are individual local partnerships/member firms within a single country.
In some big developing countries, it can even be multiple partnerships, each within their own major city.
Usually, this means there was a legacy local partnership firm (e.g. equivalent of Tan Ah Kow PAC) that got "gobbled up" by B4 and took on the brand name as a member firm. But all the toxic SME culture of the partnership still fundamentally remains despite the new atas yellow/blue/green/orange branding.
Some B4 have their local member firm entities collectively owned by a regional holding company (e.g. Ernst & Young Europe LLP), which may come under some influence from the HQ entity (e.g. EY Global Ltd). But the HQ entity doesn't actually own the regional holding companies themselves, deliver services, or share in the profit pools.
Rather than MNCs, the B4 are best described as halfway between a franchise/network and an MNC.
