Accounting tends to be a complicated profession
There isnt another critical profession that requires talents to spearhead global growth
and there isnt another lazier profession that requires DRCR book keeping only
Now the entire problem gets clumped together and there is no one size fits all solution.
Stakeholders must really give and take in order for the profession to progress.
Economy must know that 10,000 cheap bookkeepers supply at 1k a mth who cannot help local companies to grow is pointless
Yet at the same time, how do we convince Gen Z that accounting is a better profession compared to others?
Basically in audit, toxic culture like staying back after 6pm is always prevalent.
then basically every commercial firm is understaffed and the accounting work is crappy which exacerbates the problem.
Need to do timesheet, monitor billing as well plus many theoretical and technical stuff to read up on for a salary that doesnt pay you well enough to buy a decent sized condo on your own in the first 5 years
As for most commercial firm, every company only wants to get by with minimum accounting personnel. Friends, even if you have a strategic CFO (Zhuge Liang), your business empire will not expand as the finance department is already overstretched
Thats why alot jump to sell real estate, insurance and become lecturers
I cannot remember which day i was happy, except to look forward to retirement or payday

Sorry to be lor soh again
As we all know, malaysians are the most hardworking but not necessary the best in taking the Company in the global stage like our Singaporean alpha men, Sim Wong Hoo/Tan Min Liang/Chew Shou Zi
So 1. malaysians bridge the auditing problems by staying overnight in audit firm
2. They bridge the commercial accounting problem by sucking up the understaffed department problem
Now economy is fueled by cheap medicine from JB
Short term wise ok for operations day to day accounting
Long term wise, i think will have problems for SG based companies to expand to big countries.
Anyway, Singaporeans and scholars alike mostly will stay out of accounting sector in near future and this trend will continue

Due to problems mentioned above, In future i expect more and more ang moh & japanese/china/korean CFO to come over to SG.
I feel that Singaporean finance managers are not daring enough to uproot themselves to China/USA/India to gain exposure.
I feel that people in this thread should volunteer themselves to go overseas for exposure.
Move your family overseas etc , so the rest of us here can have lower job competition too
Please dont stay in SG. SG market is too small, you will never be a global CFO with sg based perspective

Ya but they willing to uproot themselves and leave their family behind to come to SG
If got USA/China work opportunity, malaysians more likely to go for it to get more exposure
To be an accounting leader, Singaporeans need to be daring too
Well educated and being citizen and doing NS doesnt entitle us to be in the job
The moment we think like this, SG will lose competitiveness
We have to analyse the weakness of malaysian competitors and work on overcoming our singaporean weaknesses , and at same time keep building on existing strength

Make no sense. Its just that accountancy is low end, low value job that dont move up the value chain. Ur points make sense for high end job whicb is highly sought after. Example.. construction labour work sgrean want do meh? This fking profession needs to go.

i know you're shitposting but a 2-3 year stint overseas does help
east asian CFO for east asian companies, yes common
progressive ang moh companies? they'll normally just hire a singaporean who has seconded overseas before. not uncommon in sg, quite a number of them. a good bridge for the working level staff who are locals and the expats/HQ who are whites.
local controlled companies masquerading as ang moh companies? they're happy with locals bc toxic loves toxic
